Shopping and Good Food

Top: Ann Taylor factory shell- size XXSP (cute version here)
Skirt: BB Dakota Groton skirt- size 0 (crochet lace version)
Sandals: Nordstrom’s callista nude wedges- size 5 (similar here and here and here)
Belt: Ann Taylor limelight skinny belt- size XS (similar here and here)

I didn’t know how my parents would feel being exposed on the internet so I decided to black out their faces to protect them- even though they are adorable! It was the first time I have ever taken my nice camera out shopping and out to dinner so it was nice to get different pictures. Hubby was kind enough to play paparazzi..hehehehe We got a lot of stares because it looked like we were celebrities. I got a good chuckle:)

SHOESHOPPINGWINDOW

I thought this picture was pretty cool taken through the window. My parents and I went shopping at Fashion Island.  It’s such a gorgeous mall and one of my favorites next to South Coast Plaza. It was my parents last day in CA and I was sad to see them go. Hopefully I will get to move them near me soon.
NEWPORTCOAST SIGN
Newport Coast is definitely somewhere I would like to end up. And every time I pass this sign, I always wish I could take a nice picture but never have my nice camera with me. I was in the car so it was a bit hard to get a perfect shot.

Ah…nothing beats salt and pepper lobster. I could eat 4 plates of this!

Hollow vegetables with shrimp sauce- to die for!!! Sounds weird but seriously delish!
I stopped by Ann Taylor factory and have been eyeing this maxi dress for months but never had time to try it on. The XXSP fits perfectly. I decided to go for it since they were having their 40% off sale plus I had a $20 rewards card gifted by Vicky. So $69.99 with 40% off plus $20 rewards card = $21.99 for a nice quality maxi dress that fits really nicely. Not 100% sure about the print but I will have a more detailed review up later this week.
I was tempted to get this dress too but not a big fan of strapless so I decided to pass. The XXSP fits perfectly and the length is really nice. There is a cute detail in the front which I couldn’t capture but here is the tag in case anyone is interested.

Review: Ann Taylor vs. Target maxi dresses

  1. I saw both of those dresses at the Outlets this weekend Annie…..strangely enough I managed to come away with nothing!! (No small feat for a shopaholic like me 😉

  2. Glad your parents had fun in the OC!! Looks like the weather was beautiful as usual. Did you get to take them to Westminster at all? The lobster looks to die for!! Where from?? If you do get into Newport Coast, let me know. I could totally live in, like, your 10th bedroom or something. 🙂

  3. Annie, you should get your hubby to play paparazzi more often. I really enjoy these pictures. They are very natural and we all get a glimpse of the street style. 🙂 It's so nice that you enjoyed shopping with your parents. (How did your Dad feel about all that? hehe. My Dad would be the designated bag holder. lol. I had to skip over the page with salt and pepper lobsters in case Jasmine sees it and drools over my shoulder. 🙂 I love love love "hollow vegetables". haha, is that what it's called?
I'm glad you were able to make good use of the AT GC. I think both the maxi and the second dress look great on you, but I'm partial to the second one. I like shorter dresses, what can I say! Can't wait for the maxi review!

  4. @J Hi J! Oh we spent a LOT of time in Westminster/Little Siagon- that's where the great food was. The best restaurant IMO is Seafood Cove. And LOL re: your last comment about NP..ehehehe You are too cute! 😀

  5. It sounds like you had a great time with your parents. I really like that window shot lol. YOu do look like a celebrity 🙂

What kind of camera do you use. The quality is amazing.

  6. @Vicky LOL thanks Vicky! Hubby doesn't exactly like lugging around my huge camera and camera bag..LOL But he had no choice since it was for my parents:) And yes the veges are hollow vegetables with shrimp sauce- DELISH. And yay for me using the $20 you gave me- thank yo so much- you are such a great friend:D

  7. @Really Petite I think that's the translation from Cantonese to English as well – the "tung" in "tung choy" means hollow. Interesting that no one calls bokchoy "white greens" because "bok" means white.

  8. Love these photos – so nice to see you with your parents and having a great time. I love the lobsters and is it called kai lan, the green veggies?
That maxi is wonderful on you!!!!! I also love the strapless one but then I rarely wear strapless myself so can't speak…:-)
Look forward to outfit/review posts of the maxi.

  9. I love your outfit in the shopping photo! The skirt and belt look great together 🙂 Hope your parents had a great time with you that day!

  10. These are truly paparazzi shots, minding your own business and not looking at the camera. You are a pro, Annie 🙂 The lobster and veggies look ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! Ironically, those veggies are my all-time favorites. I don't know what they're called in English either, just Chinese, and your translation is how I would literally say it too!

  11. Those meals look delicious! That striped dress is adorable, but I totally understand your issue with strapless dresses, it's so annoying having to pull them up and re-adjust all the time.

  12. I also was at the AT outlet yesterday but didn't get anything. I really like both dresses on you…and that picture through the window is stunning…look at you, all celebrity-like 🙂

  13. I love BOTH of those dresses!! I have been away from the Ann Taylor factory for far too long!!

  14. That lobster looks amazing!! How cute are you with your parents! Look at your mom rocking leopard too, you go girl!

That striped dress looked gorgeous on you! As did the maxi dress. I too, struggle with strapless numbers, but sometimes I make exceptions. Then I later regret buying them also, so I should really stick to my guns and not get them either! I need more restraint. Anyway, you always look so nice! You make me want to wear a pencil skirt more often!

  15. You look great, I love your shopping outfit!

And the food…I am not a seafood person at all but the lobster looks almost good enough for me! Your hubby is a terrific photographer. 🙂

  16. I like the strapless dress on you!! I'm not a huge fan of strapless because they never seem to stay up…I guess my torso/boobies aren't big enough? lol -_-; But I think you could pull it off.

I agree with the comments above! You should do more pics like these!

    ~Jackie

  17. Aww, your parents look so cute (and you look so tall next to them)! I really like the strapless dress on you! Are you mostly nervous of possible wardrobe malfunctions?

  18. I've always wanted to go to fashion island, but everytime I'm in the oc I end up chilling on the beach! Love that your hubs played papparazzi, mine would do it for a second or two and then get sick of it!

    Many Layers Monday

  19. I wait til the end where there are garlic, onions, and pepper bits left over. It's my favorite part of those salted dishes. as for the veggies, yum…I love eating it. It's so cheap to make, I dont know why I dont make it more often.

Glad you had fun this wkd. Your parents are such petite people themselves. It's a no wonder…

Glad you got that maxi dress. it looks good on you. great length.

  20. Hi Annie! I am in the process of considering moving to California and I was wondering if you could tell me some nice areas in California to consider for relocation? I would like to be in the vicinity of good outlets/malls where I can shop these fabulous finds such as J.Crew, Ann Taylor, Loft, BR,etc… Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙂 Thank you.
