Banana Republic Tweed Sheath Dress in 00P and New Cosmetics

Yet another sheath dress to add to my collection. I absolutely love sheath dresses, and I know I just wore a grey one in my last Stylebook post but I can’t help myself! Here is my most recent love: (update with pics from my new Canon T2i)

After seeing it on Jean from ExtraPetite, I knew I had to have it. She was nice enough to post the tag so I could get the style numbers so thanks Jean! 🙂 I was able to call several Banana Republic outlets and tracked down 3 dresses in 00p from 3 separate stores. It was NOT an easy task. You would think that it would be no big deal to call and tell them the item # and they would be able to look it up- that’s not the case. They physically have to look on the racks for it. And I am learning that not all SA’s are helpful or care to help (especially when it’s busy). FYI- Banana Republic Factory outlet stores ship to the U.S for $5. I had to call over 10 BR Factory stores to find these dresses and it took me over 3 hours! Cynthia and Prosephina are the lucky ladies that will be getting the extra 2 dresses. I love helping out fellow petites but next time, I will have to charge a commission for my hard work- it’s quite exhausting and time consuming!

Like Jean said in her video, the length definitely needs to come up…so more alteration costs….*sigh*. I know I have said this several times, my ideal skirt length is 1-2″ above the knee. 50% skirt, 50% legs is what looks best on my frame.  I was able to try all 3 dresses on to compare the fit and not all fit the same which I thought was interesting. The one I have on is the one that fit me the best. One was definitely looser on me in the hips and top portion of the dress.

I wanted to keep this look simple and elegant. I wanted to add some color but decided not to and just kept it clean and basic. Have you ever wondered the difference between a SHEATH dress vs. a SHIFT dress? I did a little research and here is what I found from ModCloth Blog:
A sheath dress is a fitted, narrow, straight-cut dress that has a defined waistline either implied by vertical darts or a set-in waistline.  The skirt is generally a pencil-cut, falls around the knee, and usually requires a slit to make walking.
The classic shift dress is a straight-lined, basic dress that is not fitted to the body and can also be known as a chemise. It is generally cut down from the shoulders and can feature bust darts and slight (slight) flair at the hips or a tie-waist to ensure that it won’t look shapeless or baggy.

Just thought I’d share:) The bottom portion of this dress where the hips are is quite wide. I wish it was a bit more slimming but I guess I can’t complain. The dress is fully lined and I love the belt detail. I think once I hem up the length, it will look much better and not so wide or at least I hope this will be the case!

The only unfortunate thing is that this dress was full price at $99 plus tax plus shipping:( I think we missed the sale by like 2 days. The SA said they had just changed their sale 2 days prior. I knew if I was to hold out for a sale, I would never find a 00P so I just coughed it up and I think it’s worth it because I love it. And I will have to spend another $25 taking up the hem above my knee.

Surprisingly, this dress being from the outlet is very well made. I have found that most of the BR outlet items are not as nice quality as the regular BR stores. This is because they make items specifically for the Outlet which means it’s cheaper quality.  This one just so happens to be really well made and the quality is extremely nice so that makes the price easier to swallow.

The closest tweed dress that I found is from Ann Taylor. Shop this stylebook:

Black Pumps
I couldn’t resist the 75% sale at CVS so here is just some of the things I picked up:

Sally Hansen Purple Pizzazz, Pink Sapphire, Rose Wine, Plum, Pink Boa

This is me wearing the Plum color and also why I don’t have a beauty blog..:)

It’s so sad that I am still trying to figure out my Canon SLR T2i. I can take photos of everything but myself well. I finally got a new tripod that is more steady so I am going to tinker around with it this weekend. I really hope I can learn the settings. The last photos of the nail polish and lipsticks and my hand were all taken on the new camera, see how pretty the quality is? I am so not a techie so have no clue what I am doing. Hopefully I can figure out how to take photos of myself with my remote!

  1. Love your gray dress, very pretty and professional.

I want to kick myself for missing that big sale at CVS!!! So much for limiting my blog time, I have been missing some great deals. Nice items you got, I am jealous!!!

  2. You are so sweet picking up the tweed dresses for the other petites, I imagine it was incredibly exhausting calling the stores. I really like the dress on you (sigh, I wish I wasn't on a ban) and I think it'll look FANTASTIC once you alter the length.

And omg, you must've cleaned out that CVS! love all the colors – I had to resist going to the CVS nearby after reading about the sale from Jean. Must…stay…strong…for…wallet. 🙂

  3. wow, this tweet dress is a great fit! i agree that the hem does have to be taken up a bit, but everything else about it is love! you're also too sweet for helping out the fellow petites in finding the dress. we all love you, Annie!!

and a few quick tips on camera settings since i haven't gotten around to my post: i basically have it set on Av with the f-stop set at 5.6 and ISO at Auto. you might have to play with with f-stop setting a bit, but this is what works for me! 🙂

    cute and little

  4. @Elle after everyone tweeting and blogging about the sale- I couldn't resist!

And I'm excited to get this dress tailored- it will look even nicer when it fits perfectly:)

  5. @kileen awe.. Thx Kileen!! And def agree about the length but everything else fits nicely!

And omg! U r a lifesaver regarding the settings! I am going to try it and let u know! Ive been waiting for ur post on the camera tutorial:)

  6. I always wondered about the difference between shift and sheath dresses…I'm a fan of sheath dresses as well (Ann Taylor's, specifically) and I've been calling them shift dresses the whole time!

  7. I had no idea the sheath dress had pockets as well. You look so classy in it with the pearls and flower pin!

  8. You look amazing in that dress! Very classy. And it fits you so well! I can't believe all the work you put into finding it. You're so nice to get it for other petites too. I love your CVS haul nail polish! Every time I go back, I find something new too. And such good deals!

  9. 2 posts now on this dress…makes me wonder how it'd fit on me since i'm a tad bit taller (meaning mb no alterations on me?? fingers crossed**). but gosh…to think of another gray-ish sheath dress in my closet–should I even try it on?? This dress did not come in any other color huh? Drats!

Ok enough about me (^^^I'm the youngest child=it's a habit).

You do look great in this dress. Excited to see it in future posts. Thanks for the explanation btw sheath vs. shift.

p.s. just noticed that your tan is holding up well. Is it still from your Bora Bora trip? and it's so even all over!

  10. Love everything about this dress on you! I can see you wearing this dress a lot, so the price is well worth it, even with alterations factored in.

I think I've been using shift and sheath interchangeably. Oops! Thanks for the definition lesson 🙂

  11. @AubreyOhDang! Hi Aubrey!! You def wouldn't need alterations if you are taller- it would be perfect then! Get it!!! I think someone else said this dress came in grey? I can't remember who said this….

And you can never have too many grey sheath dresses:)

Oh and my tan…it's fading really bad but I try to relax in my backyard every chance I get and get kissed by the sun:)

  12. I love how you added the pearls and flower pin…both nice touches. I agree, the length definitley needs to come up. Other than that, it looks great! Interesting about all 3 fitting differently…maybe cause its outlet quality??

  13. That dress looks great on you I can't wait to see it get shortened. I agree, more legs! LOL! Your legs are just in great shape! What is your workout routine? I would love to know!

  14. P.S. I think you'd do great beauty posts! I love the nail polish swatch! Great finds! 🙂 I'll add your link to my CVS blog post.

  15. The dress does look great on you. After alterations, it would be perfect. I like how you paired with it with a matching flower pin. You also did great with your CVS haul. I can tell you like pink 🙂 Have a great weekend!

  16. Such an elegant dress! Fits you so well. I agree if the hem line is a little bit shorter above your knee, it'll be perfect. I adore all your grey piece collections.
The plum color is so pretty on you. The price is even prettier. 🙂

  17. hii!! you look great as usual, do i even need to tell you that? 🙂 i just posted my CVS haul, luckily they were almost sold out of everything, great for my wallet 😛 and your pictures look great! i just got a dslr too and it's so annoying trying to figure out the settings! looks like you're doing a great job though!

  18. @April lol my workout routine is very lacking… I try to do the elliptical or walk but have been slacking for awhile now:( and thx so much for posting my haul on ur blog- ur so awesome!!!

  19. As first I thought it said 'sheer' dress then when I saw it I thought, "That's very much not sheer." Just shows how staring at the screen too long can mess with your eyes. Thanks for the definition of sheath vs shift because I'm still learning different terms.

I'm new to your blog and I'm bookmarking for now. I love this outfit and all the details. I like pearls with sheath dresses. You look beautiful!

    Jen Hemming and Hawing Again

  20. You and Jean look spectacular in this dress! On me, I felt like the top part was a tad loose/broad but the hips fit quite slim (or I have giant hips LOL). It looks perfect on the two of you! You can definitely see a difference between cameras – the colors just look so bright and true now!

  21. Annie!!!! Guess what I got??? This dress! hahaha. yes, at my BR factory outlet, I did see it in gray, but I like the tweed way better! and no alterations needed. (happy dance)
