Banana Republic Cable Placket Shrug and Ruffle Skirt

Oh man, blogging and Twitter is beginning to be trouble for me. Yet another sweater (s) I probably don’t need! Boy…I was hoping these wouldn’t work out but when I put it on, oh how lovely it felt! You can be the judge for yourself:

Sweater: Banana Republic Cable Shrug  in purple -size XXSP (buy here)
Skirt: J.Crew Wool Bell Skirt- size 00P (buy here)
Belt: Ann Taylor Perfect Patent Skinny belt– size XS (buy here)
Shoes: Cole Haan Suede Pumps– size 5 (buy here)
I am not exactly sure how to wear this so I tried to dress it up for work by folding down the collar and took a safety pin to keep the front together. I threw on a my fav skinny belt to create a cardigan look.
Please excuse the not so great pics, I just did not have a great photo day:)

Here’s what it looks like casually with my Gap legging jeans (buy here)- size 00P.  I don’t have anything like this in my closet so I thought I’d give it a shot. I have cashmere shrugs but none that are this length or material. I thought it would be nice to wear and keep warm at the office (meat locker). Or on the weekends casually.  See on Vicky here in purple.
Here are both side by side to compare:

Sweater: Banana Republic Cable Shrug  in heather grey- size XXSP (buy here)
Jeans: H & M super squin- size 24 (tailored)
My favorite part about this sweater is the fit – especially the sleeves! Sleeves never fit me and these, I don’t even have to scrunch up! It’s very cozy and extremely comfortable. And the deep purple is so pretty! But then again, the grey would go with everything in my closet…

Here’s another attempt to try to wear it differently- just wanted to play around with different looks. I think I prefer it casually/belted and not pinned (not sure what I was thinking).

Skirt: Winter Wool Ruffle Pencil Skirt– size 00P (buy here)

This is definitely a return unless someone wants to buy it from me but it’s going back tomorrow (so email me right away). The material is very cheap and the fit is very unflattering. Even the ruffle detail is weird. I have a love/hate relationship with Banana Republic. They need to get their sizing down.

I am still undecided as to whether or not I will keep both of the shrugs. I thought for sure I was going to either return one or both but now love both of them.
What do you think? Which color should I keep?

  1. Annie, I vote for the purple one! It's sooooo pretty on you. I don't care so much for the safety pin look, very very much love the belted look. Keeper for you! The skirt looks too funny on you. 😀

  2. This shrug surley is popular! You look fantastic in it Annie! I personally prefer the purple, but I would keep which ever you think you would wear more…and you look gorgeous in all the photos…I honestly don't think you could take a bad picture if you tried!!

  3. I usually adore everything on you (and you do look great in it) but to tell you the truth I'm not in love with it. There's just something about it that I can't pinpoint but it just doesn't seem "you". Probably the unpopular vote but I say save your monies for something more suited to you!

Love the rolled up wool pants! I need to try that look out.

  4. I really like the purple shrug on you. The gray looks good as well but I think I like the purple better.

BR sizing is so weird…I wish they would just size all their petite items the SAME at least.

  5. I bought both cardigans also and I didn't love it on me – maybe I got a faulty one because mine bunched up on the side near the hip. I was going to take pics but ended up returning it right away. Yours looks great on you and fits so well! In person, I liked the gray color better than purple but I have to say the purple one is a nice cardigan you can wear with all your grays and neutrals. Great pics!

  6. I say keep the purple, only wear it belted though.

skirt is horrendous. Never would have even considered it since I think the ruffle down the side is so odd to begin with.

  7. I vote for purple! 😛
I thought the skirt looked nice from the front view but from the side… O_o
You look very pretty though 🙂

  8. If you have to keep one, I'll say keep the purple one. To be honest, I don't love it on you. Although I tried it in store but it wasn't hard for me to decide that this sweater isn't for me. I am not a big fan of open cardigans. I don't always button my cardigan but I prefer some sorts of closure. With this cardigan, you almost have to wear the belt all the times.

  9. The sweaters look great on you! If I had to vote to keep just one, I'd say the purple one. You look cute in both of them, and I definitely prefer the belted look. I also have the black ruffled skirt from BR. I too, think the material is cheap! I kept mine, though. I also ordered the 00P and mine fit in the waist, so maybe I am a little bigger than you. haha. I also just received in the mail a green ruffled cardigan and cream/black ruffled shell from BR and I must say I was very disappointed. For what I paid for them, the cardigan was very thin and the shell was boxy and too sheer. Needless to say, they're going back! 🙁 For their prices, BR needs to step up their quality.

  10. Hmm… I like both colors on you, lol. Not of any help here! Gray is probably more versatile but that shade of purple is more unique.

And pshh, what bad photo day? You look gorgeous as always!

  11. I also vote for purple! It's a gorgeous color on you and I really love how you have it belted with a wider belt.

BTW – I don't think it's possible for you to take a bad photo, so don't worry 🙂

  12. I love both shrugs! I think you dressed it up and down very well. Pinning it down turned out to be great for the office attire! I like the gray better…

  13. I'm not a fan of this style of sweater but I think it looks really good on you even with the skirt. I like both but prefer the purple also. You should keep it.

  14. I think gray is more neutral and can match many things but the purple is unique and matches you really well ^^

  15. Hi there, You have done a great job. I’ll definitely digg it and personally suggest to my friends.
I am sure they’ll be benefited from this site.
