Thanks to SewPetiteGal letting me know about this messy bun tutorial, I couldn’t wait to give it a try. Since my hair is extra fine and I have a million crazy baby hairs, a traditional bun does not work on me. No matter how much teasing or hair products I use, I can never tame my baby hairs so that explains why I rarely wear my hair up. It didn’t turn out as I had hoped but I think it’s because I had freshly washed hair. I tried it again the next day with un-washed hair and it worked much better.  This is a great way to wear your hair up with no spin pins or bobby pins.  It’s super quick and easy- if I can do it- anyone can.

I clearly couldn’t wait to wear my new neon yellow top and took pictures the same day I got it. After looking at this pictures, I realized the top is quite wide. Much wider than I thought when I initially tried it on in-store. The arm holes are also pretty big. I may slim the sides eventually.  I was in quite a big hurry to beat the sun going down so I didn’t do such a great job tucking the shirt into my skirt- hopefully you won’t notice from these pics.

I was elated when I found Kelly’s BCBG collar necklace during my lunch break last week. It was on major clearance for $24.99! I felt like I won the lottery. She looked so amazing in it that I had to have it.

I’m not sure if you can tell but I tried wearing eyeliner on the top of my lids! I have very shaky hands and can never draw a straight line. I’m trying new things to keep it fresh for everyone but it’s definitely out of my box.  Thanks for reading and have a great week!

  1. Try powder eyeliner with a chisel brush, it gives a softer look than pencil and it more forgiving to unsteady hands too!

  2. GORGEOUS! Always so classy. The blouse is a beautiful color & I didn't notice any of the things you were concerned about.

BTW… I am so sorry that I have not been able to leave a comment on your last few posts. I have been reading but taking the time to post has just been too much to ask of myself. Work has been killing me of late. No more whining…

  3. ooh – you fancy huh? =) This is such a sleek outfit. I esp love the skirt. It adds texture & fun. and I gotta say i like how you like to try new things. It shows a lot about your character.

  4. I have shaky hands too so I use gel eyeliner from Bobby Brown (w/ eyeliner brush) – it allows you to make short little strokes rather than one continuous line.

Love today's combo and I'm glad you found the tut useful! I could never get volume in my bun until Keiko mentioned flipping the hair forward rather than backward – that did the trick 🙂

  5. Love the dark blue offsetting all the other lighter hues. So many pieces here that I'm loving – purse, necklace, nude shoes. Yes, I noticed the eyeliner too – looks good. Use a brush to smudge it after lining so you don't have to worry about it being straight. What's your nailpolish brand and shade?

  6. I'm loving how this neon top adds a pop of fun into your classy ensemble. So cute! Unfortunate that it's wide but will definitely have to head to H&M to try on this top. Anyway, you look so well put together (as usual) and this is such a unique but appropriate combination for work. Great job!

  7. i like how you styled the chainmail collar! it looks very ladylike on you. the bright yellow top and jacket look great together too! what a fun outfit, annie

  8. Awe thanks Angie 🙂 Your comments always make me smile- thank you for being so sweet! I was afraid the chain collar would be too much but I really like it!

  9. I wore a messy bun yesterday to work with un-washed hair and it worked out so much better!

Thanks for the tip on the gel eyeliner….I have to use liquid and then pencil just to get the line right..lol I am such a novice!

And love the trick about the flipping the hair forward- totally helped with my fine/thin hair…thanks SPG!

  10. Hi Jen! Awe thanks! I can sooo see you rockin' this top! I think once the sides are slimmed – it will work much better – especially tucked in. I hope you get it and can't wait to see you style it and get some ideas 🙂

  11. This is gorgeous. I love the pop of bright yellow. Thanks so much for sharing, you look great and this whole outfit is styled perfectly!

  12. Very cool that you found that necklace Annie, this is cute sunny oufit 🙂 I think you did a great job with your hair and how about a close up of the eyeliner? 🙂

I love Keiko Lynn, she's so creative and inspiring!

  13. I love the change in hairstyles! You look great with your hair up! 🙂 I always have trouble with buns and frizziness, but I've been using spin pins and they've worked out pretty well.

The color combo with this outfit is so perfect for spring time! I can't wait until spring now!!

  14. Quick question…. What in an appropriate dress or skirt length for someone who is petite, for work purposes??

  15. Hi Lisa, it all depends on your work environment and comfort level. I think being petite, we can push the limits on how short "appropriate" is on us.

For work, I like 2 inches above the knee but I do have some skirts that are shorter in length but I am the boss so I can get away with it. Plus I think as long as you carry yourself in a classy way- then you should be fine. Some work places are very strict. I think as long as it's it mini mini – then you should be fine.
