Banana Republic Laurel Color Block Pumps vs. Tahari Peri Cap Toe Pumps

BananaRepublicColorBlockPump2
Top: Ann Taylor factory {recent} – size XXSP
Skirt: Ann Taylor {old – slimmed} – size 00P (similar here and here)
Belt: Ann Taylor – size XS (buy here)
Shoes: Banana Republic – size 5 (buy here)
Size: These run about 1/2 size small (as do most BR shoes) so be sure to size up. The size 5’s fit me perfectly with no heel gap- yay! The insole measures 8 7/8″.

Heel height: 3 1/2″ with a chunky heel. It’s a nice change from my other pumps.

Leather/Quality: The leather seems to be a bit stiff but I’m hoping after breaking them in, they will loosen up a bit. I checked for any quality control issues and the only thing I could see was a few tiny scuff marks on the bottom of the sole.

Comfort level: I have yet to wear these for a full day so I will update this after I wear them (if I decide to keep). The toe box seems to be a tiny bit tight so if you have wide feet, this may be an issue.

Price: $120 but with all my discounts and rewards, they came to $50. I wouldn’t pay full price for these but at this price, it’s not bad.

Verdict: Possibly keeping

Tahari – size 5.5 (buy here)
Size: From what I can tell, these run TTS (true to size).  If you are usually a 5.5, these should fit you just fine.  I am quite irked that Tahari carries full and half sizes but start their smallest size at 5.5 which makes no sense. What happened to size 5? The insoles measures 9 1/16″.

Heel height: 3 1/2″

Leather/Quality: It’s a really well made shoe. The patent leather is so pretty and it’s the perfect colors. The taupe is not too light or too dark with the black cap toe accent – gorgeous.

Comfort level:  I walked around the house in these and they seem to be really comfortable. The toe box is more of a square shape so no pinching.

Price: $59.95 with $10 coupon = $49.95 w/free shipping

Verdict: So sad they don’t fit but highly recommend if you are a size 5.5+. They are gorgeous and the price is decent.

Remember how I ordered these Corso Como pumps? Well I got a call the other day saying they cancelled my order due to a manufacturer defect in the back of the outside of the heel.  Apparently there is a greenish discoloration on all the pairs I ordered (3 diff sizes). A reader (AnnieK.) tweeted me and said she was able to place her order and it shipped just fine. So I am going to try to re-order and see what happens. On Nordstrom’s website, it got perfect reviews with no mention of this defect so what the heck?

What are your thoughts on both of these pumps?

  1. Love this outfit with my favorite colors! The Tahari shoes are adorable! I need to look around for my DSW coupon…

  2. Looking fab Annie@ Those Tahari shoes are lovely – are you sure you can't put an in sole in?

Are those Ann Taylor shells back in store now? Do you know what colours they came in for Petite? Thanks so much!

  3. I like first one better. Probabely because I'm not fan of tan color. Lighter color really matches your skin and your outfit in my opinion.

  4. I really like the first pair on you. I wasn't sure I would, but they're great.

  5. Gosh, I prefer the Tahari one so much more! So sorry it doesn't come smaller than 5.5. Where did you get the $10 coupon? I'm thinking of ordering a pair for myself. πŸ™‚

  6. I recently purchased the BR pumps and love them. I had to go up 1/2 size, but this is not an issue for me. How it fits is more important than size. I also bought the Corso Como pumps, but i'm returning them. When compared to the BR pumps, they look cheap.

  7. Thank you for the review. I like the BR and have it on my wish list.

  8. Sorry for the delay MT! The AT shells are back in store. I believe they come in hot pink, baby pink, a grayish/blue, mute turquoise…and that's it. Regular has more colors πŸ™‚

  9. I too, had problems with a comfortable fit in the BR Laurel pumps. I bought two pair to make sure that one fit…neither did. Too small of a toe box in my normal 8.5, and big and sloppy with the 9. Both are going back…..but they are sooo pretty πŸ™
