Likes: I love the navy and eggshell stripe colors. The pleats lay perfectly and isn’t too pouffy. The thickness of the stripes is the perfect size and very proportional to the style and length.  The skirt is fully lined and made out of a higher grade of polyester (almost feels like silk).  It’s nice to add a different brand to my wardrobe.
Dislikes: The waist is too big for me and it’s dry clean only. I also wish it had pockets.
Verdict: I love it so much that I will find a way to make this work. I’m holding it up with a belt in the pictures but may need to have it professionally tailored. If you are one size up from me, this should fit you perfectly.  The price is decent given how nice the skirt is. I would recommend it.

Rebecca Taylor white tweed flared skirt – size 0 (buy here)
Measurements: waist laying flat 12″, total length is 19″ (fully lined)
Material: 83% cotton, 9% viscose, 6% acrylic, 2% other fibers – waist is 100% lamb leather
Care: Dry Clean only

Likes: I absolutely adore everything about this skirt. The quality is unbelievable. The tweed is a heavy thick material and the waistband is made out of lamb leather (feels buttery soft). The waist is slightly too loose on me but doable. The length is perfect for someone my height (5′ tall).  The skirt is fully lined and the cream color is so pretty.  These aren’t the greatest pictures but in real life, the skirt looks amazing.
Dislikes: The only drawback is the hefty price tag.  I’m going to hold off and see if it goes on sale. I can’t justify paying this much for a skirt even though I love it to pieces.
Verdict: Sadly returning 🙁

Modcloth See You Round Skirt  – size small (buy here)
Measurements: waist laying flat 13″, total length is 18.5″ (unlined)
Material: 97% cotton, 3% spandex
Care: Dry Clean only

Likes: I had high hopes for this one and wanted to replace my Forever 21  navy pleated skirt (see here). The navy color and polkadots were perfect and I love the shape of this skirt.  I like that it’s a thicker cotton material so it will hold it’s shape.
Dislikes: The skirt is unlined and dry clean only. The waist is too big for me but would fit someone who is one size up.  I contemplated keeping and taking in the waist until I saw that it was dry clean only. That confirmed my decision to return it.
Verdict: Return

Modcloth Decades Dance Skirt – size small (buy here)

Material: 100% polyester
Care: Hand wash cold only

Likes: Pink + polkadots + bow sash? How could it not work out? I love the color and idea of the bow sash.  I thought the price was decent at $42.99.
Dislikes:  The waist is too big and not worth tailoring.  I don’t like the 17′ length and think it should be longer.  The material feels thin (like intimate apparel) and the shape looks funny on me.  The bow sash, as adorable as it is – doesn’t hold a bow very well. It needs to be thicker and made of a sturdier material.
Verdict: Return

AnthroPonteStripeSkirt-2
I recently ordered this Anthropologie stripe ponte skirt in XS to try out. It has great reviews but is back ordered until June. I’m a little concerned that the XS does not have the black stripe on the bottom (per reviews). Hopefully it will still look good. If it works out, then I can check off navy striped and black striped skirt off my wish list.
I apologize for the not so great pictures but haven’t had time to take better ones.  Which skirt is your favorite?

  1. My favorites of them all would have to be the Navy Striped Skirt, ModCloth Polka Dot Skirt, and the Anthropologie Scalloped Striped Skirt. The Collective Concepts Skirt pretty much represents the perfect combination of navy and creme. It seems to be such a versatile skirt and definitely a closet staple. I’m glad you’re going to make it work. Honestly, I had high hopes for the ModCloth Polka Dot Skirt. It’s such a bummer to know that it’s too big and dry clean only! The idea is super cute, and would have been a great replacement for the f21 skirt you have. I can’t wait to see your review on the Anthropologie skirt when it comes! It is so cute, and I can’t tell you how much I love the scalloped details! Hope that one works out for you! 🙂

      • I agree with Christine. The Modcloth skirt actually looks gorgeous in your bigger picture above (size S is sold out but will watch for pop-ups). I hope the Collective Concepts skirt fits me and I really appreciate the recommendation. The Anthro version with the scallops is very gorgeous and whimsical. Hopefully it’s June before we know it. 🙂

        • It’s a shame about the modcloth skirt- I wanted to love it but I think there could be better out there. Thanks Jess!

          • If you don’t love it then I won’t give it another thought. The F21 version that we both have (thanks to you) is at least good for casual wear. 🙂

          • Yeah it’s not something I would recommend to you. I wish our F21 skirt was longer. It’s still cute:)

  2. I really like the navy polka dot skirt and the navy striped skirt! I’m also petite so I’m thinking about ordering one of them & altering it to fit me.

  3. Sorry the others didn’t work well for you, but the anthropology one looks really cute! I’ve never been disappointed with the material, it looks like it’ll be a good piece. Looking forward to your review of that!!

  4. These skirts look adorable on you. Too bad the Rebecca Taylor one is so price-y. Yeesh.
What do you think about flared skirts or voluminous skirts on pear-shaped bodies?
