I’ve never really been a fan of maxi’s only because I haven’t found one that looks decent on me. See some old posts with maxi dress reviews here and here. I pretty much gave up on maxi dresses and figured it just wasn’t for me. I just received the this striped halter maxi and it was a complete fail. It runs very large and extremely long. I also tried on the crossroads stripe dress (see here) and it did nothing for me. I loved the palm print of this jersey dress but it also runs very big.
I decided to give maxi skirts a try to see if it look any better than dresses and I’m really glad I did! I came across this Dress Barn petite navy and white striped maxi one night and figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. There was one review from someone that waas 4′ 11″ and she said it fit her perfectly. I know what you are probably thinking…umm Dress Barn? I’ve always seen and heard of this store but have never even thought to shop here.
This skirt met all of my requirements: simple, no slits and navy. I online chatted to find out what the waist measurement is and it’s 24.5″ which is a tad loose on me but nothing that would bother me too much. The total length is 36″ and fits me (5′ tall) perfectly when worn with flats or wedges. Some other options that may have potential are:
– Dorothy Perkins Petite striped maxi skirt
– Pieced striped maxi skirt (38″ long for ladies a bit taller than me)
– Foldover waist striped maxi
– Forever 21 striped maxi

Hubby is still not convinced about maxi dresses or skirts but this photo swayed him a little bit more. lol
I love when clothes can double as something else and this can also be worn as a beach cover up! I definitely will be bringing this on my next vacation. It’s super comfortable and flows nicely. If you need a PXS, it seems to be sold out online but luckily, Caitgreff from Instagram works there and can check for sizes!

This Old Navy denim jacket is so old that I can’t even remember how many years ago I got it. Hubby took the liberty of pulling it out of our coat closet when he saw me come home with a bag of the Old Navy girls denim jackets (see here and here). It was collecting dust all these years because it’s a bit big on me and the sleeves are quite long (hence the thick rolls on the sleeves). After washing and drying on high heat, it seemed to have shrunk a little bit in size. It’s a nice change from my dark denim Gap girls jacket. I like that the pockets are placed in the proper place because it’s a woman’s cut and not kids.
For U.S readers, Happy 4th of July! Be safe and have fun! 🙂
What are your thoughts on maxi skirts?
Diff’rent strokes for diff’rent folks. Some can work certain styles, others cannot. I personally adore maxi dresses and maxi skirts. I love the convincing picture of you with the lovely blush-colored hat and the navy blue bra top. 🙂 Your casual outfit here is very nice with the denim jacket and the yellow top. Sweet style!

I think maxi are then best option for petite s.They make you look so much taller! Don’t understand the myth of wearing the shortest hemlines possible or knee length when you are petite as it makes you look even shorter but so many people insist on it it’s wired
I think the maxi elongates your look! It’s very flattering on you. I don’t think you should be so critical about them on you! I’ve seen the other looks and I think they all look great on you. 🙂
Thanks so much Jinna! This is the only one that didn’t make me feel weird. 🙂

My husband historically is not a huge fan either, but I think is coming around. I personally love maxi skirts for petites and I love the way you paired it with a cropped denim jacket. Great post!
