I’ve been wanting a white coat for a long time now and am still kicking myself for missing out on last years version of the J.Crew lady day coat in antique white. So this year, I told myself I was getting one no matter what. You are probably thinking a white coat? Totally impractical right? Yes it is but there’s just something so pretty about a crisp, clean white coat.  I think I can get away with it in California.

I tried on Banana Republic‘s white fit and flare coat and unfortunately it runs very big (see on me here). After a thorough search online and in stores, I reverted back to the lady day coat. I love the fit, quality and requires no alterations.

Since small sizes tend to sell out very quickly, I snatched this antique linen color up as soon as J.Crew ran a sale. Here’s a tip if your size is sold out – they tend to restock their sizes very early in the morning so it pays to refresh when you wake up or have a friend do it for you if they live in the east coast.

I knew it wasn’t going to be as white as I had hoped for but it’s very pretty.  It has slight blush color undertones and is more of a cream color.
J.Crew Lady Day 2013 comparison
I was curious about how the sizing compared to both of my 2011’s and the sleeves measure 22″ (21″ in 2011) and the total body length is 35.5″ (33″ in 2011).  I was a bit disappointed that they made the sleeves longer since the old sleeves fit me perfectly. I’m sure the ladies with longer arms will be elated.  The total length now hits me past my knees which is longer than I like my coats.  As a reference, I’m 5′ tall.

I love my new Banana Republic honeycomb cardigan! It runs small so you’ll want to size up. I found it in store for $25 after the 40% off promotion.

  1. I just love your outfit and your coat. I bought an antique white coat similar to yours last year for a bargain. It was originally $450 and got it for $60 since no one wanted a white coat. Score! It is Anne Klein. I love it. Living in So. Cal I think it is classy and chic. I have never seen anyone wear a white coat outside of the internet. Seems like everyone wears black on my commute on the train. I leave at 5:00 a.m. every morning and wearing the white coat perks me up. I just bought a green lady day coat from Bloomingdales on sale and waiting for its arrival. I love green and thought I would add some color! (Still want a grey one like yours!) Lovely coats!

  2. I love this entire outfit Annie! The honeycomb cardigan is gorgeous as is lady day coat. I’m getting my coat today so I’ll let you know where the new sleeve and hem falls on me since I ordered 0P. 🙂 My Soia & Kyo cream coat definitely needed to be dry cleaned maybe 3-4 times last winter so you’re lucky you don’t have to deal with all the nasty cold weather elements in Cali. The trick is to dry clean it before the stains set in and if you really love the coat you’ll be able to wear it year after year as long as you treat it well right? I used to be such a miser when it came to dry cleaning too.

    • Thank you Jess! Thanks for the tip on dry cleaning the coat before the stains set in…I will be extra careful! I hate dry cleaning but it’s necessary evil. lol

  3. That outfit is very elegant and I love the coat as well! and I have a question would you do a handbag collection? especially the one your holding in the picture is such a classic! you have great taste Annie! 🙂
