You know summer is over when I start busting out all my burgundy clothes and accessories. Burgundy, maroon, oxblood, wine, merlot…whatever you’d like to call it – it continues to be a popular color for fall. It’s a great alternative to navy or gray and adds a deep, rich pop of color for those chilly, cloudy days. You’d be surprised at how easy it is to incorporate this into your fall wardrobe.
Before we get into how to wear burgundy, let’s talk about this wrap sweater! I reviewed it HERE and now it’s on sale! It’s so comfortable and I love that it’s nursing friendly. I know this doesn’t apply to all the gals reading this post but if you’re a nursing mama, you know the #struggleisreal! It’s also very forgiving and great for postpartum. It’s simple and very versatile – love and would recommend. I also have my eye on this surplice tunic sweater and it’s available in burgundy!
FYI – the online stock image shows the gray sweater with a mesh choker top underneath and the description says ‘choker neckline’ which is a bit confusing. It does not come with the mesh top – just thought I would clarify because I received a lot of questions about this. 🙂
Let’s get back to how to wear burgundy this fall. I rounded up four easy tips to help get your started.
Floppy Wool Hat
I’m not a fan of the monochromatic burgundy look – way too fashion forward for me (lol). Instead, I prefer to add subtle pops of burgundy into my outfit. A simple way to do this is by adding a wool floppy hat. It’s understated, effortless and hides those bad hair days (and pesky fly away hairs).
Adding a burgundy handbag to your fall wardrobe is fool proof way wear to start incorporating this color into your wardrobe. Handbags will make or break your outfit and helps pull everything together. If you don’t already own a burgundy handbag, you need one. I’ve had mine for years and wear it frequently season after season.
I heart dresses and wearing a burgundy dress involves little to no thinking. Add a pair of leopard pumps (flats for a casual look) or leopard clutch and you are set. Easy peasy!
Wine Colored Shoes
I never thought wine colored shoes would do it for me but since getting a pair a few season ago, I ended up reaching for them more often than not. A pair of burgundy booties with your basic denim and a chunky knit sweater is the perfect go-to weekend look. Have a holiday party to go to? Try adding some merlot pumps to your LBD (little black dress).
Sweater: c/o Express wrap balloon sleeve sweater (on sale, size XXSP) | Bralette: Free People lace bralette (size XS) | Jeans: Topshop ripped high waist jeans (size 25×30) | Shoes: Vince Camuto Franell ankle bootie | Tory Burch thea handbag (old, similar HERE or HERE) | Hat: c/o Modcloth (old, similar HERE or HERE) | Bracelet: c/o Kendra Scott elton station cuff | Watch: c/o kate spade holland watch (also have this and this)
I don’t think this berry tone trend is going anywhere anytime soon. Burgundy pairs well with navy, camel, black and gray. Love it so much!
