High Tea at Langham Hotel, Pasadena

I finally got to experience high tea!

My dress: c/o Ivy City (size XXS) | Milan’s dress: c/o Ivy City (size 8T) | Meadow’s dress: c/o Ivy City (size 3T)

Experiencing high tea had always been a dream of mine, and I was thrilled to finally make it a reality.  For as long as I can remember, the idea of having high tea just sounds so girly and fun doesn’t it?  I had my reservations about bringing a 7 and 2 year old to something so fancy (and expensive). You just never know how things will go with little ones. I figured what the heck and hoped for the best. The girls may be too young to truly enjoy (and appreciate it) it and they of course had their moments but overall, we created wonderful memory together!

We wore our matching mommy and me dresses from Ivy City it couldn’t have been more perfect for the Langham Huntington Hotel.  It’s honestly something I’ve always dreamed of – wearing fancy matching dresses and having high tea with my daughters.

If you’ve ever thought about of indulging in high tea, I encourage you to try it.  However, I do think it’s best suited for older children or with your girlfriends. Looking back on our day, I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to finally have high tea with my daughters. Although they may have been too young to fully appreciate every aspect, the important thing was that we were together, creating memories that would be treasured for a lifetime. 🙂

  7. Annie this post is what finally convinced me to book the Langham high tea — we went last month for my daughter’s 6th birthday and it was absolutely worth it. You were so right about it being better suited for slightly older kids though. My daughter was old enough to sit through the whole thing and she felt like such a little lady with her pinky up and everything. My 3-year-old nephew came along too and bless him, he lasted about 20 minutes before the fidgeting started.

The matching dresses idea was genius by the way. We didn’t do Ivy City but I found a similar floral set on Amazon that worked for our budget and still looked really put together in the photos. Speaking of which — I took way too many pictures (as usual) and my husband turned the best ones into a little slideshow GIF for me afterwards, cycling through the scone tier arriving, my daughter’s face when she saw the sandwiches, and the two of us doing a cheers with our teacups. He slowed the transitions down on gifspeed.com so each moment actually lands instead of just flying by. It’s now my phone wallpaper and honestly one of my favourite things I own.

Quick tip for anyone considering it — book the window seats if you can, the garden view is stunning and the natural light makes your photos so much better. Also the strawberry scones were unreal. Thank you for putting this on my radar!

  17. That high tea setup looks absolutely stunning! I especially love the floral arrangements; they really elevate the whole experience.

It’s interesting how different hotels interpret “high tea.” I once went to one that was much more casual, almost like a fancy brunch. It made me think about the origins of the term and how language evolves. Speaking of origins and meanings, sometimes when I’m doing crosswords or word puzzles and get stuck on a clue, I’ll check cluesbysamanswer.com to jog my memory. It can be surprisingly helpful!

  18. What a lovely experience! I love that you took the plunge and brought your little ones along despite your worries – that’s such a sweet memory to create with them. The fact that you dressed everyone up in matching outfits from Ivy City makes it even more special. I’ve always been intimidated by the idea of high tea too, but your post is making me think it might be more doable than I thought, even with young kids in tow!

  19. The Langham Pasadena is such a beautiful venue for afternoon tea, the rose garden setting makes it feel genuinely special. Did you find the savory courses held up to the sweets, or was the dessert tier the clear winner?

  20. I love that you took your daughters to high tea! It’s such a special experience, and the dresses are adorable. I’m glad to hear you made wonderful memories together despite their ages.

  21. What a beautiful experience! The idea of matching mommy-and-me dresses is so charming, and it sounds like the Langham was the perfect setting for such a special occasion. I completely agree that high tea is better suited for older kids, but it’s lovely that you created lasting memories with your daughters. I’ll definitely keep your tip about booking the window seats in mind for next time!

  22. This looks like such a lovely experience! I’ve also wondered about bringing younger kids to high tea. It’s good to know that even with some potential challenges, you still found it worthwhile and created a special memory.

  23. That looks like such a fun experience! I’ve always wanted to try high tea, and the Langham is gorgeous – I especially love the idea of matching dresses with my daughter if I ever have one. Maybe I’ll start with a girlfriend outing first, though, as you suggested, haha.

  24. The dresses are beautiful! Looks like high tea at the Langham was the perfect girly and fun experience you imagined.

  25. I’ve always wanted to do high tea! I was wondering about bringing kids, though, so it’s good to hear your honest take on it. Maybe I’ll wait until my niece is a little older, but those matching dresses are definitely inspiring me!

  26. What a lovely experience! I totally understand your hesitation about bringing such young children to something fancy like high tea, but it sounds like it turned out wonderfully. Your girls looked absolutely adorable in those Ivy City dresses – that’s such a sweet memory to have captured with them at that age. High tea is definitely one of those magical, girly experiences that’s worth the splurge, and I’m sure your little ones will remember it forever!

  27. I made these air fryer apples this morning and they turned out fantastic! I used honeycrisp and the cinnamon really comes through without any added sugar. My kids devoured them, and it’s become our new quick breakfast (seedance summary). I was skeptical at first but the texture was perfectly crispy on the outside, soft inside. Will definitely try different apple varieties next time.

  28. Honestly curious how the 2-year-old handled it — my toddler can barely sit through a regular restaurant meal, let alone something that fancy.

  29. The matching Ivy City dresses with the Langham setting is such a smart combo—great inspo for anyone trying to plan a “girly but classy” mommy-and-me outing.

  30. What a beautiful high tea experience at The Langham! The matching mommy and me dresses are absolutely perfect for such a special occasion. I love how you’ve documented this lovely memory with your daughters.

  31. What a sweet experience! I love that you took the plunge and brought your girls anyway despite your worries—those are honestly the moments that become the best memories. The fact that you found dresses for all three of you from Ivy City makes it even more special, and I bet your 7 and 2 year old felt so fancy and grown up getting dressed up for high tea. I’ve been wanting to do this with my own kids but kept talking myself out of it, so seeing that it actually worked out for your family is really encouraging!

  32. What a wonderful experience to share with your girls! I love that you took the plunge despite your worries about bringing a 7 and 2 year old to such a fancy setting—honestly, those are the moments kids remember forever. High tea really does seem like the perfect girly activity, and I’m sure Milan and Meadow looked absolutely adorable in their Ivy City dresses. Did they end up behaving better than you expected, or were there some funny moments with the little ones?

  33. Loved this peek at High Tea at the Langham Hotel Pasadena! For someone planning a visit soon, what’s your take on dress code—are floaty midi dresses okay or does a sharper blazer read better there? I’ve been testing outfits with a virtual try-on and color analysis app to pick a tea look, but I’m curious if softer neutrals photograph well indoors.

  34. The emphasis on making it a special, memorable occasion for a small group really resonated. It’s a great reminder to focus on quality time over a large party. I’ll be looking for a similarly elegant venue, perhaps starting with options like nano-banana2.

  35. The point about making it a special occasion for a small group really stuck with me. It shifts the focus from a big event to creating a more intimate, memorable experience. I’m inspired to look for a venue with that same elegant atmosphere.

  36. It’s interesting how this frames high tea as an intimate event. I’ve always thought of it as a large, formal affair, but this smaller, personal approach feels much more appealing. It makes me want to look for a similar experience, maybe starting with a place like Paper Banana.

  40. Loved your “High Tea at Langham Hotel Pasadena” post — it made me think about the lovely background music during service.
