Lookbook: Coral and Lace

I have been having difficulty doing an stylebook post because I have been having some kind of fashion crisis! I just can’t seem to come up with an outfit for the life of me! What’s up w/that? I am getting bored with the background settings in my house and I am not brave enough to venture out into the streets.  Unfortunately I am not lucky enough to have a photographer do it for me. So here is my first attempt this year to take pictures outside:

I have these gorgeous jasmine bushes that bloom every Spring and seriously smell delicious but then the flowers fall off so I had to try to take pictures using them as back drop! Unfortunately, I didn’t take into account that the grass would be soft and my poor Ann Taylor pumps sunk into the ground (ewww). I couldn’t stand straight because each heel was sinking as I was trying to pose.

This lace vest has been worn twice already so I have to thank Jean for discovering it at H & M! This is why I love reading blogs because you may find things that otherwise you may have passed on.  Some people have a problem with petites/bloggers buying and posting the same items but personally I LOVE seeing the same items on different people. Isn’t that why we all blog or read blogs? To share our finds and help ourselves and others look and dress better.  We all wear it differently and have different body types albeit our petite stature. I personally am flattered when people buy the same items as me. I have some readers who email me and let me know that they copy my outfits for work exactly and that couldn’t make me happier. It’s the reason why I enjoy blogging so much is to help others while also helping myself look and feel great!

If you are looking for a similar lace vest, I was able to find the EXACT same one at Nordstrom rack for $14.97 which is $10 cheaper than the H & M version. I tweeted about it but they didn’t have any small sizes but just FYI πŸ™‚

I blogged about this Cache dress last year and it’s super old but the fit is amazing! It actually was hanging in my closet un-worn until I started blogging and realized how cute and petite-friendly it was. I haven’t been to Cache in a million years but have 2 dresses from there that are super tiny.

Who else has bought this lace vest? And how do you style it?

  1. this lace vest looks great on you and i love the coral color of that dress! and you did a great job taking pictures outside. it's a trial and error process, from my experience at least. πŸ™‚

    cute & little

  2. Thank you for the tweet, Annie. I think the vest is more versatile than some would think, and am glad you like it.

That's an interesting point you address in your post. I've often bought things recommended by others, and I'm definitely flattered when readers do the same. However, for actively growing bloggers, I think it's important for us to have our own style, and to bring new things to the table. I guess there is also a fine line between being inspired by others, and buying the same exact clothes, shoes, and jewelry.

Some have mentioned that there are limited things we can buy due to our size, but reading all the lovely petite blogs today prove that's not true : )

  3. You look lovely Annie, that is definitely a great colour on you! I enjoy seeing the same pieces on different bloggers as well – it's nice to see how different the pieces can look. I think we all kind of have our own spin on things and signature style but it's great to be inspired by blogs we read!

  4. yet to jump on the vest wagon. If I had chunky-ass heels, perfectly tailored wide leg jeans, I'd sport this vest for a 70s inspired look. Til my feet grow and I have a booty like the girls on jessy's tumblr (jessysphotofix.tumblr.com), I'll just admire it on you ladies.

It's fine to see the same items on the petite bloggers, but if I see it too often, as a reader, I'm bored. I ask myself, "what else is new? can someone post smthg new to oogle at?"

  5. You'd think with all the shopping us bloggers do, we'd never be in a styling rut, right? WRONG. It happens to me all too often πŸ™‚ No worries, you just need to be inspired by something… anything around you really.

PS – When is Hautelook planning on shipping out the AS pieces?! This is the longest I've been waiting for a package and I'm getting pretty darn impatient.

  6. You look lovely especially in that first candid shot. That vest is so very you, sweet and feminine. I love how you style each piece your way…it is like a signature style it something πŸ™‚

I have been blogging for almost a year but have yet to buy one single item that I see on other bloggers. I don't think there is anything wrong with buying stuff that others buy but it is important not to be completely influenced by a trend set by others.

  7. You look so beautiful and classy here! That dress is a gorgeous color on you and so perfect for spring. The vest really takes it over the top πŸ™‚

  8. I love the outfit Annie and the way you have styled the lace vest. I was a bit skeptical when first seeing these appear in the stores, but the way you have put it together with the dress is perfect! Also, love the outdoor pics – nice to change things up once in a while, though I know how hard it is to take self-portraits and go to a different place with different lighting!!

  9. You look so beautiful and I love those jasmine flowers! I loved the way you styled that lace vest. Perfection

  10. The pink is gorgeous on you….perfect for your skin tone…the vest makes it so adorable. And nope, didn't jump on the vest and haven't seen it in stores…I was looking at crochet tops in H&M though.

  11. This is a great combination! Perfect for spring. I've seen the lace vest at Nordies Rack past weekend but small sizes are sold out. You're going to love the Amrita Singh necklace. I love my bracelet. I wear it with everything. The coral necklace will look darling with this outfit.

  12. Pretty, pretty! Love the coral + lace + pearls!

I agree – I really like seeing particular items go through the blogger community because everyone wears it a different way and I love seeing that!

  13. you look gorgeous! i love the outfit shots too! i sometimes feel like i can't come up with proper outfits either…than i go online and look at blogs and get more inspiration πŸ™‚

    Fashion Bag 411

  14. You look gorgeous and classy as always Annie!!

Can I request a review on the petite jeans from Delias.com? They are offering 26 and 28 inseams! Sound almost to good to be true. I think all jeans are buy one get one 50% off right now and free shipping on orders over $75. They also have a very helpful guide to finding your jean size, including a video.

It would be great if you can review them and let us petites know if they are true to size and how the quality is! =)

  15. Is it wrong that I now go shopping with your outfits in mind?? (I hope that doesn't sound creepy!) I stopped by the Loft this afternoon and saw some pieces that looked similar to ones you had that I thought were cute. I just had to giggle πŸ™‚

  16. @kileen thx Kileen! Yeah…trying to figure out new settings from the one spoon in my house to outside is very hard!! But thank goodness u taught me part of the settings which I still use!!! Ur the best!!!:-)

  17. @PetiteAsianGirl no problem Jean! Thanks to u, this vest is a nice new addition to my closet….lol

And it's tough because I think you and I have very similar tastes so I'm noticing that I will buy something and then u beat me to it and post it or tweet it…great minds think alike..hehehe like the moto jacket from target or the bb Dakota navy dress and even some of the AT outlet items I bought in the Midwest and then you did a post the day after..I think it's awesome you and I think alike altho u have way better taste:-)

  18. @Cee omg right? With all the shopping I do, u'd think I would have plenty of choices..lol I think I'm bored with everything and my backgrounds!!!

And I'm getting my AS necklace on monday! Woo hoo! Hope u get urs soon…

  19. @Recovering Shopaholic I love ur name btw..lol I feel like I'm still an addict..hehehe and yes self-photography is Soo much harder than it seems!! I'm trying to play around with new backgrounds but with work and still learning my camera..it's tricky:-)
