When I originally posted this on instagram, it was so popular that I decided to share on the blog. I don’t know what it is about Instagram that I love so much but I think I am obessessed with it. It’s quick and I love looking at pretty photos.  This dress was given to me by Karri who I met through blogging and her and we have become very good friends. It’s become one of my all time favorites and it fits me nicely.  We’ve never met in person but I feel like I have known her for years.

I think if the arms were slimmer on this blouse, the layering would look much better. As you can see, it’s really bunchy near the shoulders and armpit. I found myself having to pull down the shirt a couple of times during the course of the day to make sure it lay properly.  Does anyone know of any tricks to making something like this stay put all day? Any suggestions would be great!

I love tie neck blouses (aka. secretary/pussybow/bow blouse) and tops (see few of them here, here and here). They’ve been around for so long and keep coming back in style. I have several of them and they look great alone or layered under a cardigan, blazer or dress. They just add that feminine flair to any outfit. Here are some I found online that have potential:
1. Vanilla Milk Top (ordered to see how it fits)
7. Tie Neck Blouse (comes in 2 colors)
Are you a fan of these type of blouses?

  3. “Trick” I was taught is to tuck blouse/shirt into underwear or pantyhose. Creates a smooth line and anchors the blouse! Diane

    • Ditto to Diane’s suggestion.

This is seriously a cute combination and I’ll have to see if I can try this out with any of the shift dresses I own. I also really love suggestion #4. Thanks Annie!

I always look forward to your daily updates on IG.

  5. Annie, this is a very nice outfit. I like the blouse with the elbow sleeve detail and the lovely bow. I also like its color. The dress is also very nice with its shape and form. The animal print pumps are wildly chic. So I’d say this is a very nice look for Fall/Autumn.

  8. I totally wish I had snagged that mustard blouse from Gap when I got my blush one. I’m hoping Gap has similar styles this year too!

  10. I’m not sure if the blouse you’re wearing works that well with the dress. I’d wear it with a skirt or pants if I were you. I went to private school growing up, and the whole blouse and dress/tunic/jumper thing screams “junior school” (elementary division). πŸ˜›

  12. Pretty! I found a top that combined two of my faves – necktie bows and peplum. It was pricey and found at my local boutique.
