Blogger Blues: Venturing Out To Free People

I don’t know if it’s just me but I am getting bored with the same brands for petites. It’s either Ann Taylor, LOFT, Banana Republic petites, J.Crew petites, ASOS petites, H & M or Bebe. The same old brands over and over again. I want another brand to try on and excite me! So I have been scouring the internet for just anything. When I visited my family in the Midwest, my sister-in-law had on a cute Free People dress and it fit her really well and she’s tiny just like me.

Read Across Dress (comes in XS)
Free People’s style is not for everyone and for many years, I wouldn’t have even given it a second glance. But now that I have seen it on someone who is petite and it looked so cute (thanks sis-in-law), it’s worth giving a shot.

The price point is definitely high- no doubt about that. And I have yet to decide whether or not it’s worth the money. If the quality is good, then I can swallow the hefty price tag. I do know that Macy’s frequently has major sales on Free People items. Since I have been into lace so much recently, I am LOVING this Free People lace dress. The color is so pretty for Fall and it comes in XS. I think XS should fit us petites without any alterations from what I have seen. I can definitely see myself wearing this with a cute cardigan and boots for Fall/Winter.

Ruffled Tiered Top (on major sale)

This same top is double the price on ASOS but half the price at Macy’s for the exact same top!
In my search, I found that they have cute sweaters too! I am loving this violet wool cardigan (also comes in XS). It’s a gorgeous color and looks so warm and cozy! Perfect to throw on with jeans or a cute dress. The cheapest dress/item I could find is this rose dress on sale for only $39.95. That price isn’t bad and the dress is still available in 0!
A lot of different stores and department stores carry Free People but my short online venture with Free People – the direct website and Macy’s prices are the most competitive. I have yet to try on something although I do have one Free People romper that I love and sleep in. Looks like this but in bright orange.
Was $68 On Sale for $19.95 (click HERE)

One thing I did notice was that there are a lot of “sexy” and see-thru dresses- not sure what’s up with that or it’s meant to be layered (hopefully). Who else loves Free People? And are the sizes petite friendly? I would love to hear your thoughts!!

  1. Great info on Free People! I have never tried them on but I can tell you who FP's fan is:) Our lovely Ping. FP definitely runs small. I believe Ping is one sz smaller than me and lots of stuff fit her nicely. FP can also be found at discounted stores such ad TJMaxx & Marshall

  2. YAY!!! glad to see someone else try Free People. I love love lover their stuff!!! Can't wait to see you model the stuff.

  3. Free People looks terrific on Ping and she's a really slim petite so I am sure the XS will fit perfectly. I can't wait to see you model some, I have had my eyes on some FP pieces but things I like are always full price or sold out before it goes on sale. sigh.

  4. I'd probably liken Free People clothes to Anthropologie, so if like one style, you should like the other. I haven't given their clothes much of a chance (too $) but can't wait for reviews if you buy their stuff!

  5. I feel the exact same way about wearing the same old petite brands all the time! It gets boring after awhile. Now that I'm re-entering the workforce again, I'm excited to have a salary that will allow me to do more shopping than I've been doing over the past few years. I will try to find some new petite-friendly brands for us all!

  6. @Ping, I am glad you frequently model FP clothes for us and now I'm glad you will too, ReallyPetite.

I see some of their stuff @ loehmann's. I wish SD had its own FP store.

  7. Oh, really like the read across dress and lace dress. The price tag is a bit steep. Do they ever go on sale? I wonder.

  8. Free people is my favorite brand for clothing because I love the bohemian look! I just can't really afford a $100 blouse all the time so I have to settle for Forever21 and cheap stuff or the thrift store, but I'm soo happy you're into FREE PEOPLE–yay!

  9. Free People has some cute stuff, but sometimes I think the fit/quality is off on some of the items.

I think their slightly higher up line, We The Free, has some great pieces though! Definitely check that out too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. I have a We The Free jacket that I love, and I got it at a really big discount. Watch the sale section of their site – you can find some good bargains there.

  11. @Cee: Free People's owned by the same company as Anthro ๐Ÿ™‚

I also like Free People, though now that I'm in my 30s, I feel that I might be a little too old for their stuff.

  12. I don't have any of their things but I'd love to see them on you for sizing reference. I think Free People is Ping's favorite brand and they all look great on her!
