Ann Taylor Nautical Dress 1

Yes, I have jumped on the nautical bandwagon. There’s nothing like a dress that fits with no alterations. Anytime I have a chance to buy a dress w/out having to spending additonal money taking up the hem or slimming the sides, it’s usually a no brainer for me. I recently took advantage of the Ann Taylor 40% off and put this outfit together:

I had to find a location with water for my nautical inspired outfit…and guess who is making their debut as my photographer? Who else other than my amazing hubby!!!

He did a fantastic job and I was so happy to have help:) It was so nice not having to set up my tripod and double check the settings and to make sure I am in the photo! I could just relax and not have to break a sweat.

This dress fits perfectly and is so comfortable. I love that I can still wear it to work and dress it down with some flats if I wanted to. And guess what the best part is? You can wear big butt underwear…no thongs for me! 😀

Stripes are not everybody’s cup of tea. I don’t mind them as long as it’s done right. And since the nautical theme is so hot right now, if you don’t like this one, there are so many options out there. I think this cowl neck striped dress is adorable and the price is reasonable.

I think by adding a pop of color with my orange belt (thanks Vicky for tweeting about it) and accessorizing it with my statement necklace, it helps break up the stripes.

I love that I don’t have to wear a cami underneath this. I was afraid it would be too revealing or low-cut for work but luckily the way it way the front was cut, it doesn’t show anything:)

If you are looking to re-create this look, it’s super easy! You can start by getting this J.Crew belt in georgia peach (more of a coral color) and this Ann Taylor coral statement necklace for a pop of color.

Then get this super cute delia dress (very affordable) and add a quilted purse….and throw on these patent nude pumps and you are good to go!

I had a great time with my new photographer and am so relieved that it turned out!

You can see this dress on Jean when she tried it on in the fitting room…anyone else pick up this dress?

  1. Annie, this dress fits you so well. Love the new coral/orange pieces on you. The color works very well with blue and white. I personally had a problem with this dress at the store. It fit me great as well, but I get so dizzy looking at the stripes in the mirror that I started to think it was the mirror. lol. Not meant to be. In any case, I enjoy seeing it both on you and Jean.
How nice of your husband to take all these lovely pictures. Very sweet.

  2. You look amazing in this dress! I love your choice of coral pairings! I am definitely a fan of nautical! 🙂

Your husband did a great job with the pics…definitely nice that you did not have to do the tripod! The close up of you is gorgeous! Your skin is so pretty!

  3. Looks gorgeous on you Annie =) It looks so shapely on both you and Jean. I particularly love that orange/coral belt. I love all things coral lately, and I think the color particularly looks amazing on East Asians.

I swear, I should swear off visiting all your blogs for like, a year. The minute I visit, the minute I start browsing/shopping the internet again.. lol, I love you guys, but I need self control 😀 I've been good tho, lately… but that's because I haven't been visiting 😛

  4. I grabbed this dress as well…it's perfect! I'm already dreaming of the many ways to wear it.

You look great, as do the photos! 🙂

  5. Your hubby did such a wonderful job here – they look like they are straight from the pages of a magazine! Will he be taking the pics from now on? Gorgeous photos and I really love how your paired the navy / white with the brighter orange colors!

  6. This dress is gorgeous and accentuates your curves perfectly! And these photos are fab! Congrats to your hubby! I especially love the ones with the pink/peach wall as the background. 🙂

  7. The outfit is really cute, love a pop of color from your belt. Your hubby did a great job, I especially like the 1st and 2nd photos.

  8. Wow Annie it definitely fits you perfectly! I love the nautical theme – I think these dress will make a nice classic piece in your wardrobe. And so nice of your husband to help you out 🙂 Looking forward to more photos from him!

  9. Gorgeous outfit, Annie! Love the styling and the dress on you. I really, really want the georgia peach J.Crew belt, but $20 when others have bought for $7?! I can't justify it…

  10. *___* I love picture #2! The color in the background matches the belt. Those colors look so good together.

I love this outfit on you! Although, personal I'm not a huge fan of stripes.

  11. I am wearing this dress right now! I wore it with my navy blazer over it. I agree it fits perfectly. I love how it hugs my waist and makes me look curvy.

  12. the yellow bkgrd is my fave for this dress. pictures turned out great. I hope your husband helps you out more. I've always been a fan of slanted pics.

  13. I love outdoor photos. Your husband did a great job! Very nice dress, Annie. It fits you perfectly. The necklace adds a lovely touch to this outfit.

  14. L.O.V.E. The nautical look this season. Always have 🙂 and I'm super loving what you've done here! Great dress! And the accessories totally make the look.

  15. I already commented but I wanted to tell you what happened today. I was at Kohl's buying some white jeans. The same exact jeans in petite cost 10 dollars more, so I asked the cashier and she said "Petites are always more because they're made special". And I laughed and told her, "If anything they should be less since it's less material!" At least I'm special but I felt especially ripped off!

  16. This is a great outfit 🙂 The dress is very flattering on you.

I hate to point this out but I actually don't like all these "crooked" photos. It makes me really dizzy :S
