Dress: H & M print shift dress- size 2 (similar here and here)
Belt: Thrifted braided leather belt- size XS (similar here)
Bag: H & M mustard satchel: item # 042925 (similar here or in cognac)
Blazer: H & M- size 2 (similar here)
Shoes: Talbot patent peep toe– size 5 (buy here)
Yet another post on H & M! I wasn’t kidding when I said I went on a mini shopping spree last weekend! See this dress on Gigi and Jean. Jean will be doing a DIY slimming of the sides so stay tuned for that. I so wish I could sew but I don’t even have a sewing machine!

This dress is very wide unbelted. I asked my tailor how much it would be to slim the sides but it’s going to cost a hefty $30! I may just save it and have my mom do it when I go back home to visit. Throwing a blazer over it and adding a belt certainly helps hide the tent-like shape of this dress.

The length is not as short as it appears on me here because I have the belt hiding the width and in turn bringing up the hem. I think it will look great with tights for the Fall and will hide the shortness of the length.

My favorite part of the dress is the ruffle and button detail. It’s so feminine and adorable! I had no idea I was going to love my mustard satchel as much as I do- it’s quite versatile.
Readers- do you think it’s worth it to pay $30 to slim this dress?

  1. I'm obviously not a female (which would disqualify me as a petite, though I'm 6'0"), but I guess if you love the dress and want to have it tailored to fit you better, I say go for it. The dress itself is beautiful. The designs on the dress are as lovely as your smile and hairstyle. Adding a blazer and a belt are both fantastic touches. Looking beautiful (as always), Annie! 🙂

  2. haha, you and Jean have such similar tastes! i just saw this dress on Jean yesterday and was thinking how lovely of a print it was and now my opinions are reinforced after seeing it on you! very lovely and the belt really does bring in the fullness of the dress.

    cute & little

  3. So far your H&M reveals have been one success after another. Love this dress, even as is, on you. I wonder why they made it so short. Was it meant to be a tunic?
Lovely pictures! The bag worked so well with the dress. In fact the mustard color works with a lot of different colors, I discovered. 🙂

  4. You look great, love the blazer!

I have a few dresses that are wide like that. I just belt them. Especially since this dress has a pattern, a belt is a good way to break up that pattern. *I've actually never tailored the sides of any dresses, so I wonder what that would entail…elastic or maybe just stitching? Tailoring is so expensive nowadays, when I shop I try to find the best fit to completely avoid it but if I adore something I will tailor it. 🙂

  5. I actually like the dress as-is on you. The belt does a great job and I like the loose fitting. Would say no to alterations 🙂

  6. would've liked to see someone wear the blue one instead just for variation purposes. more H&M reveals still coming up? the 20% off is no good for me.

  7. I actually think that dress looks better belted and I don't know if that is how you plan to wear it most times, but if so, I say no to the tailoring. Blousy tops and dresses seem to be in for fall, so I think you're spot on!

  8. This is great! I tried this dress on and wasn't loving it on myself, but, my goodness, it looks absolutely fantastic on you! Your mustard satchel is a perfect match 🙂

  9. I was actually going to comment on the length – that it would be a mini cover up on me LOL! Glad it's longer so it will still be decent on slightly taller girls 😉 It looks lovely on belted, I probably wouldn't spend too much $ altering either especially for H&M.

  10. I went to H&M today because of you, Jean, and Wendy! Lol! This dress was sold out in 2s, but I did try on the shirt to post pics of.

You look great in this dress! Great solutions, too!

I saw your purse at H&M and thought of you! :p

  11. Annie, I LOVE this dress on you. It flatters you very well because of your skin tone. And you totally just reminded me I have the same blazer. Haven't worn it in a while, but then again.. it's been super hot in Toronto lately.

  12. This dress looks so very pretty on you! The print and autumnal colors are lovely. I don't personally think it's worth $30 for slimming if you feel belting can fix it especially since the dress itself was only $39(?). Love the polka dotted lining of your blazer by the way 🙂

  13. Thanks for the link love! The colors you paired with it are really pretty. It looks great w/the belt, too. I added your link to my post 🙂
