My first successful trip at a thrift store (Savers)

I love the idea of going thrift shopping but have never been able to. Unfortunately, I get severe allergy attacks as soon as I enter any thrift stores or vintage shops. I love the idea of finding vintage items and pieces that no one else has but just have never been able to in the past! We went to 2 Savers thrift stores this past weekend (both of them no where near where I live) and it was the first time in my life, I didn’t sneeze! No runny nose, welts, blood shot eyes, and no plugging my nose! It was so clean and organized, I couldn’t believe it! I didn’t see one loose article of clothing on the floor.  All the racks and rows were clearly marked by size and category. I was able to actually “dig” in each row without wanting to kill myself from either the smell or my nose running. I walked out with 2 awesome skirts for work.  The first one was a gorgeous Petite Sophisticate navy pencil skirt (almost indentical to my pink one that I have been wearing like crazy).

I almost screeched when I saw the tag said size 0! I could tell that whoever this girl was, she was the exact same size as me because the length and waist were tailored and fit perfectly. The waist measures only 11.5″.  Not to mention it’s fully lined.  All for the hefty price tag of $4.99 plus I had 25% off so bringing the grand total to $3.74 with no alterations! I checked the skirt thoroughly for stains, tears, loose/missing buttons and it was in perfect condition!  I was so happy! I am dropping it off at the dry cleaners tomorrow! YAY!

The other score was this amazing Ann Taylor deep red wool pencil skirt (picture is not what the color really is). Unfoturnately it’s a size 4P but it appears to have been tailored quite a bit because the waist only measures only 12 3/4 which is still too big on me. I will need to tailor the sides and take in the waist but the length is perfect. It’s fully lined and in perfect condition! I can totally see me wearing this a lot! The quality is amazing and I didn’t even hestitate to buy it. The price tag was $$3.99 plus 25% off for a total of only $2.99. Alterations will run me about $25 which isn’t bad for a fully lined and tailored skirt I will wear forever.

Next I found a gold plated vintage Monet (signed) chain statement necklace. It is in such great condition, clasp is perfect, no tarnishing and looks so pretty on.  I cannot wait to pair it with something. It was a bit pricey at $7.99 but the 25% coupon helped:)

If you have never been to Saver’s, I would highly recommend it! Especially for those of you who have bad allergies.
Hope everyone had a great weekend! 🙂
Anyone else been to Saver’s?

  1. Wow..sounds like you had an awesome experience at Saver's! I wish there is one close to where I live. I am looking forward to see you model both skirts =)

  2. ive never heard of Savers, but i'll have to look it up! those are some excellent finds. im usually just to lazy to go to the stores (im just an online shopper, generally). im quite jealous, tho!

  3. I am glad you had a good experience, Annie. I have the same problem as you did, sneezing, headache, running nose and watery eyes. lol. Glad it didn't happen to you this time. Great prices. Can't wait for the modeling pictures. 🙂

  4. There's nothing like a good thrift store find! I've never heard of Saver's, but I like that it's organized- especially that it's organized by size. There are some wonderful thrift stores in the Princeton, NJ area, and any Goodwill in a wealthy area is bound to be loaded with treasures! I visit the one in Fairfield county, CT (one of the richest counties in America) and it's always loaded with tons of discounted, good quality goodies!

  5. Glad you had such a positive experience thrifting and can't wait to see how you style these skirts!

Our thrift stores here have very blah merchandise but I know larger metro areas have much better selection 🙂 I did, however, pick up some cute brooches once!

  6. As much as I enjoy people's outfit posts and reviews, one of my favorites is to see what people find when they go thrifting. Finding older items that not many people own is a great way to add uniqueness to a wardrobe. I'm so glad you had a great experience and was able to find some treasures! Can't wait to see you add these pieces to your outfits!

  7. Yay! So glad your Savers trip was a success! So many pretty pieces! That necklace is awesome!

I just noticed that our Savers closed down! I went there during college a couple times during my skater days! Lol! I still remember a famous picture of Ulysses S. Grant, but it was $25. Then I thought…that is so expensive for Savers! Now I am kicking myself for not getting it. :/

  8. Good job! I love thrifting because I feel like less people can fit into the sizes we need. Sometimes garage sales are perfect too if the person is the same size!!

  9. yay, great thrifting finds!! i have the same problem with thrift stores and always end up having to leave cause i just sneeze non-stop. the skirts look so pretty (love the colors!!!) and i can't wait to see you style them. 🙂

  10. Wow, awesome finds! We have Savers here too and I haven't really shopped in it well. I've kind of just walked in and walked out. I really should take the time to browse properly.

  11. My goodness what a terrific finds!!! All three of your treasures look awesome and their prices are unbelievable. You really got me interested in thrift shopping.

  12. I love finding things in thrift shops!!

I've never heard of Saver's but we have a store near here called 2nd Avenue that's pretty nice.

  13. Great finds! I love vintage work skirts. I find that the quality is always so much better than new clothes these days. It's too bad that the red skirt wasn't in your size.

It seems like you get a lot tailoring done for you. I would highly recommend for you to get a sewing machine and try to learn to do basic alterations like hemming yourself.
