Zara double breasted mustard coat- XS

Coat: Zara – size XS
Dress: ASOS pencil dress– size 2p
Shoes: Ann Taylor perfect pumps– size 5 (buy here)

It was 92 degree’s when I shot these photos so if I look like I am suffering from heat stroke, it’s because I am! The things we go through for blog photos! Do you see what I do for you ladies? 🙂 You can see a full review from Sydney. I don’t want to bore you with the same details but wanted to show you how it looked on someone a bit shorter.

Positives: I like the length of the coat. It’s very petite friendly. The width fits nicely when buttoned.
Negatives: Color is NOT mustard. More of a goldish/yellow more than a true mustard color. The sleeves are too long (cuffed them up several inches). Price is a bit steep for quality.

Yes I probably should have worn a shorter dress for the sake of this post but it was last minute and I wanted to try out my ASOS dress (which is going back). It’s a bit too roomy on the bottom for me.

Verdict: Return. It’s not a 100% of what I am looking for so if anyone is interested in it before I return, please let me know! I think I will hold out for a mustard J.Crew coat!
Did anyone else have luck with ordering from Zara?

  1. I LOVE this coat!! I think it looks great on you but I understand that when you are looking for a certain color it can be super disappointing when the color turns out to be different.

  2. I agree with the return. Although a nice coat, it's too yellow. Makes you look more pale. Not good epecially during the winter. Would love to see more of the Asos dress on you.

  3. Aw, sad that neither you nor Sydney fell in love with it. Hope a J. Crew version will work better!

And thanks for braving the heat just to let us see you in the coat! 🙂

  4. I do find this coat a beauty but it seems like both you and Sydney didn't quite like it though it looked great on both of you. I guess we tend to always be on the lookout for that perfect autumn coat and once we grab it, we would never let do.

  5. it's very bright! i'm yearning for more toned down colours for fall after a summer of colourblocking but this would be nice for when it gets colder to bright up winter blues! however in cali, i'm not sure you'll need that coat much (lucky!) … if only i went to school where home is, eh? xD

  6. I adore the color of this coat! I might have to go check it out myself if it's this petite-friendly. Also, I had that same problem with the ASOS dress; it's way too poofy below the waist for me. So disappointing, since it looks fab on so many other petites.

  7. I actually really like the color of this coat. I also like mustard too… so I guess I'm easy haha. Definitely a return since you're not 100% happy with it. I do think you'll have better luck with J.Crew's. Crossing my fingers for ya!

I couldn't resist and ended up ordering a red coat from Zara. It should be arriving soon and I'm REALLY hoping it works out!

  8. I love this color on you indeed, lovely. Some Zara pieces are way too expensive for their quality and that's why I prefer going to their store and inspect them.

  9. Coat is beautiful but I feel like the golden yellow color is somehow dated. It reminds me retro 60s mod fashion whereas I tend to find true mustard shades to be chic. Good decision on not keeping it. Plus I the pockets to be a little "sloppy" compared to the Lady Day's slanted pockets. Can't wait to see one of the new JCrew coats on you. I'm looking for a shorter non-double breasted coat this year so I'm disappointed with JCrew's current offerings. Nevertheless I hope they have a sale soon!

  10. P.S. Did you try this dress in US size 1? That's the size I have from Asos. (Same thing happened to me that happened to Aubrey.) But I actually like the poofiness because it gives the illusion of hips. I've never worn my dress though because it's such a pain to put on and off!
