After taking these pictures, I realized the dress still needs alterations. This is after I made the armholes smaller and slimmed the sides by 1″.  I wore it with a belt  here and added a long strand of pearls but it still doesn’t feel right.  I really want to make it work so hopefully I can fix it.

I really wish Forever 21 would get their sizing right. Their quality is not the best but they have definitely gotten better over time. There are so many cute items and the price point is hard to resist but everything usually requires alterations. So frustrating!

Right now, the shape of this dress does nothing for me.  I still need to figure out how to tweak it without ruining the look of the dress and pockets.  It was much tricker than I thought.  I am a beginner sewer so still have no clue what I am doing. I only know a few very simple alterations.  For those of you that are expert sewers, please share your thoughts!

Since the dress has the chain trim detail, I went very minimal on jewelry and only added some pearl earring studs.  I love to accessorize but sometimes, simple is best.  The boucle with chain trim details is very Chanel-esque.  I love the taupe and gold color – it’s very neutral and can be work with many different colors.  It’s very classy dress and I’m so glad I got it.

On another note, this marks the second week of my shellac manicure and I am completely sold.  I decided to splurge and see what all the hype was after seeing it on my friend Karri. It’s so worth the money and I can’t wait to try a french manicure next.  I can’t believe that after two full weeks, absolutely no chipping! It’s still in perfect condition except for the new growth.
Has anyone else bought this dress or tried a shellac manicure?

  1. Cute bow ring! Where is it from??? I’m still afraid of trying shellac manicure. I don’t want to damage my nails! For now, I’m just sticking to Essie nail polish.

  3. Alterations can be quite difficult. Looking at the dress it looks like you need to take in more at the sides. But to do this, you’ll need to remove the pockets and add them back in. You could also try adding some darts for fit as well. It doesn’t look like an easy job & I would personally take it to a tailors to be altered.

  5. Not that I’m am expert sewist, but slimming the dress will be difficult because of the pockets. You can try slimming above them, but it might not give you the shape that you want. You also have the option of adding darts, but it will probably ruin the look of the dress overall. Are they real pockets or just sewn on flaps? If they are just flaps, you might try to remove them, slim, and then add them back on but that is way too much work for me for a F21 dress. =/

  7. I loved this on IG and love it here! Sorry no tips on alterations except maybe put it on top of a dress you already love and fits well, and see if that gives you any clues. Good luck! Love the chain detail and wearing it with simple pearls and classic Chanel.

  9. I loved the shellac manicure at first, but then the new growth outweighed the benefit of it being long-lasting. It was also inconvenient to have to get it removed at a salon.

The dress is so cute, I wish Forever 21 still had it for sale. I think it looks fabulous on you!

  11. It’s so you and I love how you styled it here Annie! So classy.

I hope you get some good sewing tips and I wish I could offer helpful advice in that department. Until then I’ll stick with my favorite tailor. πŸ˜‰

I think your Chanel here is my favorite. Such a gorgeous color. What is it called?

    • Hi Jess! LOL It is very me but hopefully I can fix it until it fits perfectly. The Chanel is the m/l lambskin and the color is called taupe (I think).

  13. What do you mean Forever 21 needs to get their sizing right? I think their clothing already runs really small. Why should they design their clothing to fit super tiny, petite people when most people are NOT super tiny or petite?

  16. The dress is currently only available in medium and large. Do you think it’s worth getting a medium and having a tailor take it in?

    • That’s a tough one. I had to take in the small by a lot and it still needs to be fixed. What size are you typically? If you are similar in size as me- it might not be worth it.

    • I fit a size 2. Forever 21’smedium is a size 8/10. I’m going to wait and pray that XS’s are restocked.

  17. Also, Shellac manicures are supossed to be healthier than acrylic. It doesn’t weaken your nalis, as they don’t overfile the nailbed. They last pretty long compared to gel/solar/acrylics.
