New Home Update

We’ve been building a new home since January of this year and boy has it been a long journey.  Believe it or not, we still have quite a ways to go.  There have been some major setbacks along the way.  I cannot wait to move in and Miss Milan is going to have a heyday with these stairs (lol).  This post is way overdue so here is a sneak peek of our new home!

This is when they first framed the stairs.  My absolute favorite part of the home and one of the main reasons why we bought it.

I couldn’t get a decent shot because the front door wasn’t fully open but this was when they were just about to frame the stairs.

So hard to take pics with a crying toddler (LOL).

It’s taken almost a full year and we are still about 3 months away from closing.  We are not building a custom home, this is through a builder so it’s semi-custom.  I’ve always dreamed of building a custom home but as you know Southern California has no land and in order to do this, you have to tear an existing home down and build.

Buying through a builder has it’s perks because you don’t have to deal with contractors etc however there are many downsides.  I feel like I’m compromising a lot on the upgrades because the options are so limited.  The won’t allow certain finishes in the kitchen so I’m forced to choose something I’m not 100% happy with.

I typically would get everything standard and do all the upgrades after the close.  That’s what we’ve always done in the past.  It gives you exactly what you want without compromising not to mention how much money you save not going through the builder.  Upgrades is where builders make the majority of their money because the mark up is insane.  The downside to doing this is you have more construction done on your brand new home.  I wouldn’t mind it but now that I have Milan, it just wouldn’t work time wise.  I want everything done and brand new when we move in.

I recently started shopping for home decor items – my favorite part about moving but definitely not looking forward to packing and unpacking AGAIN.

  1. Your beautiful, cozy, grandeur jome! It’s stunning, like a mansion or a palace fit for a queen and a princess like you and Milan! 🙌🏼
Ms Annie, how about vlogging so we can see a full episode of your, your family and your home?

  2. Beautiful….your taste is a lot like mine, with decor as well, so I would love to see more and how each room turns out completely finished.

  3. It looks beautiful! I love your staircase and kitchen too. I’ve always wanted a big kitchen because we cook all the time.

  4. Straight out of gone with the wind… the reboot.

Sometimes it’s better to pay more upfront and not have to worry. Its beautiful hope you plan to do a finishing tour one room at a time!

  5. I actually know some vacant lots in OC, but not with the ocean view. 😉 Still pretty spots, though.

  6. So beautiful! Are you going to post another update on the house? Can’t wait to see the final!
