My baby girl turns 5…
My first born. My rainbow baby. Miss Milan is 5 years old. Crazy. It seems like just yesterday she was just a tiny baby. As they say, the days are long but the years are short. SO SO TRUE. I have so many mixed emotions. I’m happy. Proud. Grateful. All the things but at the same time, I’m sad that she’s no longer my little baby. She’s growing so fast and it seemed like this past year, she was 4 going on 14. Maybe it’s the pandemic? I don’t know but she is one smart cookie and way beyond her years.
I knew this 5th birthday was going to be different due to Covid-19. With the recent shut down in San Diego, we weren’t going to be able to do anything with her friends. I decided that no matter what, I was going to make it super special. I wanted her to have the best birthday EVER regardless of what’s going on. I’m really glad that it ended up being an intimate gathering and most importantly the focus was on her.
I didn’t really have a “theme” in mind but knew I wanted something girly and fun. A mini candy bar with all her favorite treats and a balloon garland was a must. I always drool over the balloon garlands I see all on Pinterest and Instagram but the whole idea is so overwhelming that I’ve always been hesitant to try it. I found this balloon garland kit and figured, what the heck. Let’s give it a try.
It took about 1 hour to complete with 2 people. You definitely need at least 2 people to do this job. There was no way I would have been able to do this alone. Mr. Right blew up the balloons using this electric ballon pump while I strung each balloon on the garland strip. It’s not that hard but it can be overwhelming at first. The hardest part was hanging the garland on the wall. If we had a normal wall that was not custom panelling, it would have been way easier. You can use command hooks and hang the garland strip on the hooks. Well, because we didn’t want to chance ruining my custom pink wall, Mr. Right had to hang some command hooks on the ceiling. It wasn’t easy to say the least and balloons kept popping. Good times. lol
The garland was much fuller at the beginning but we lost some during the process (to be expected) and I didn’t have time to add any more. You can add more balloons to give it that fuller look after you hang the garland on the wall. The kit comes with little dot adhesives to stick your additional balloons to the existing garland. FYI, I didn’t end up using the entire bag of balloons. If I had to guess, I probably had about 15 balloons left over. I wish I would have had time to add all of them but we were losing daylight plus Miss Meadow Ivy was super tired.
Was it worth it? Heck yes. Was it slightly stressful with a baby that is teething and wouldn’t nap? Haha Definitely but oh so pretty. I can’t wait to do another one for Meadow’s first birthday.
Can you believe this custom two tiered princess crown cake is from Walmart bakery? I was so impressed by the quality and the price was way cheaper than other bakeries. This princess cake is actually under the baby category. I made a few changes and removed some details and it turned out beautifully! It even came with a matching wand that you can opt to put in the middle but I had them leave it on the side for Milan.
For the candy bar, all I did was put candy inside apothecary jars. I have tons of them at home so all I needed was to find Milan’s favorite pink treats. Super easy, takes little to no effort and looks amazing! You can find them at Home Goods or I found this set or this set – both would work nicely.
To save myself from washing dishes, I picked up these adorable pink and gold dinnerware set. It comes with napkins, plates, cups and gold plastic knives and forks. Super pretty and less clean up.
I also ordered 24 custom cupcakes from the Walmart bakery and was able to do it all online! Who knew! So easy to do and under $14. I would love to bake and decorate them myself but who has time for that. lol. I was able to get 12 chocolate and 12 vanilla with pink butter cream frosting and sugar sprinkles.
Here is everything I used and some other cute decor to create this rose gold princess birthday party:

I also got Milan a smaller 6″ cake (also from Walmart for $10) along with some cake decorations so she could decorate her own cake. Cute and fun activity for kids. Keeps them busy for a little bit. She said she had the best birthday ever so I guess my job is done. haha
Happy Birthday Milan! We love you so much! XO
You did an amazing job! You would have to pay almost $1,000.00 for someone to do that for you but you did it yourself and kicked ass! It shows with your daughters smile. Thank you for listing all the products too.
Thank you so much Melissa! And seriously? That’s what party planners charge? OMG! I got everything from Amazon, Walmart and Home Goods…LOL I love a party on a budget. Haha
So pretty! You have an incredible sense of personal style. Can you define rainbow baby? I’m not familiar with that term. Thank you.
Thank you so much! Of course I can explain. A rainbow baby is a baby you have after you have a miscarriage. I had a horrific one before getting pregnant with Milan. It was awful. You can ready my story here:
