If you’re visiting San Diego, here are my thoughts on this family friendly resort!

Sometimes when we need a break from every day life and want to get away, we stay at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. It’s a great mini vacation without having to pack or get on an airplane. I get so many questions about where to stay when visiting San Diego and figured it’s about time I talk about this resort. I’ve only lived here for a few years so I don’t know the area too well but we’ve been to this resort enough times that I can say that it’s definitely something I would recommend.
Omni La Costa Resort & Spa is a 400-acre, Spanish-Colonial resort located in North San Diego County. The resort grounds are absolutely stunning! It’s hard to capture all the beauty in photos but hopefully this gives you a good idea of what to expect. It’s a very family friendly with a separate pool area for smaller kids. There’s also an edge adult pool and terrace, splash landing pools with a huge 100 ft. water slide (we haven’t gone on it yet), a garden pool (located near the hotel rooms) or if you have a villa, there’s a separate pool & hot tub. You can also reserve a poolside cabana which is great for families. We do this whenever possible because it provides a lot of privacy (great for nursing), space and shade for the kids. I can only handle the sun and heat for a short time so having shade is a must for me.
If you love spas, they have a beautiful spa with separate spa courtyard pool for spa guests only. This is perfect for after you get a massage and want to relax by the pool without all the chaos/kids. There’s also a golf course (we don’t play golf) but the course looks really nice. The cost of this resort is on the higher side (especially during the Summer) because it’s in a great location and considered a luxury 4.5 star resort. The only downside I’ve experienced is that the pools do get pretty busy during peak season. If you want to avoid the crowds, I would suggest going during off season. The weather in San Diego is usually beautiful so you can’t go wrong.
The last time we visited in early July, we noticed that the Kidtopia Kids Club was open. It’s basically a drop-off day camp that provides counselor-supervised, educational and entertaining programming for children ages 6 months-12 years. I’m not sure if this is a new thing or not and we have yet to experience it but it looks pretty awesome. What a great way for parents to get some alone time while on vacation. I definitely want to try it out for Milan and Meadow!
Hopefully this helps you decide on where to stay if you’re looking to visit San Diego. 🙂
When’s the best time to visit from South Africa? So the weather’s warm enough, but the pools not crowded
