I received this dress from the same reader that gave me the other amazing Banana Republic sheath dress. I’m not sure what I did to deserve her kindness but I am forever grateful. I love both so much and they fit me perfectly. I have met and gotten to know some truly beautiful people – both readers and bloggers and I just want to take this opportunity to say how much I appreciate anyone who reads, comments and takes the time to email/tweet/facebook me.
IMG_9743.jpg
I want to address a couple of things in this post. In regards to a recent incident on another blog, I won’t go into too much detail but I do want to say a few things. For all the nasty and ill-willed comments about me, you will not take me down. I did not get where I am today in life if I let negative comments and people affect me.  I am saddened and very disheartened by how mean and just down right evil people are. You don’t know me and you have no right to bash me. I understand everyone is entitled to their opinion and that is fine but to blatantly talk bad about me or my blog is unacceptable. I have put up with it for way too long and I won’t stand for it anymore. I am only human and my feelings do get hurt.  If you have a problem with me, please be an adult and show some respect. You can email me and voice your opinion directly to me.
IMG_9764.jpg
It’s so sad that in this day and age, there are still women who are not supportive of one another. It leaves me speechless.  My blog is my own and if you don’t like it, then you don’t have to read or log on. I am who I am and my style is what I wear in real life. I love sharing deals, what I got when I went shopping and helping other women find clothes that fit.  I have gone to great lengths to help my readers and other bloggers and enjoy doing so.
IMG_9667.jpg
Blogging is not easy (my fellow bloggers can attest to this). We put ourselves out there in the world for people to judge and criticize. We pour our heart out into every post and some of us have a business or full-time job and families to take care of.  I am a very happy and positive person and I WILL NOT let you “anonymous” and some non-anonymous commentators on this blog or others to make me sad. The more you hate me, the stronger I am. The more you bash me and put me down, the faster I get up. Just STOP it already.
IMG_9676.jpg
A special thank you and great big hugs to so many of you (readers and bloggers- you know who you are) that personally reached out to me either through email or direct message on Twitter to show your support. I was so touched.

**Update – I wanted to show you what I bought yesterday at H & M. I feel I have to do this so NO ONE can say I copied anyone. This skirt is from H & M’s “trend” collection and is a size 2. The quality is really nice, thick and fully lined. The waist is 11.5″ across and length is 16.5″ and fits perfectly. I tweeted a pic of it yesterday while I was shopping.**

  1. Did you get this dress altered? It's so perfect on you! Love it. : )

I'm so sorry to hear about all of this drama that's going on. It's very brave of you to confront the issue and hopefully, we'll move on from all this drama. You have a great readership and I know that they all support you, or they wouldn't even be reading this blog. : )

  2. No alterations Jessy! Can you believe it? The reader who gave it to me said it was from 2007/2008 back when BR sizes were much smaller!

And thank you for your comment- that means a lot to me πŸ™‚ <3

  3. My gosh, I have no idea what has been said, but I can only imagine. Why people take their own time to waste someone else's by saying hurtful things is unimaginable. I'm sorry you've been going through that πŸ™ You look great, tho! I'm insanely jealous of your weather!!

  4. I was just about to ask if this was a BR factory find since I had never seen it. Is it polyester or wool? I really love how it isn't sleeveless and has pockets! (I'm still searching for a sheath dress with these requirements.) Plus the gold buttons really add to the 60s mod theme that has come back. Also, Cole Haans look lovely with tights! Has your booties search ended now? After seeing this post I'm actually thinking of ending mine and going for these instead.

  5. This dress looks incredible on you!!
I don't know what happened, but you (and all of the other petites I've come across) have been exceptionally helpful and sweet. I'm so grateful to have found your blog and the others that I frequent and, silly as it sounds, I can truly say you have all changed my life. For the first time in my life, I look and feel like an adult and not a child playing in my mom's clothes!
No has any right to judge another person, and I agree with you that as women we should all support one another.
Sorry to harp on that, but I hate that someone would be so disrespectful!
Anyway thanks for all you do and for all of your posts and pictures. It is very much appreciated!

  6. Why would anyone want to hate you? I love your blog (even if I don't comment much) and enjoy all the hard work and thoughtful posts you put up on a regular basis. I agree, blogging is hard and quite a process sometimes but please know all of your efforts are appreciated.

  7. I read your blog religiously…and you are gorgeous. I admire your grace and style. Those who speak like that, speak out of jealousy. I get tons of ideas from you πŸ™‚

  8. That dress looks really cute on you! I love how you paired the booties with the tights. Btw, I see you found some arm candy! πŸ™‚

  9. I don't normally comment (devoted reader though!) but you are so brave! I really admire your strength.

I think that dress is just proof of the many other readers who truly appreciate you. πŸ˜€

  10. Wow, I had no idea there were such nasty comments. I don't really read comments on your blog (wish I had the time) and had no idea this was going on. Be strong and be positive and don't let those people get to you. It is really sad! You are right if they don't like your blog then they have no reason to be reading it. Foolish people! Anyway, love the booties!!!

  11. I love your blog. I visit yours and a handful of others every day, and I enjoy every minute of it. It is nice to find people who share the same clothing woes that I do. Family and friends just don't understand, and the blogs have given me a sense of control and peace about it. Thank you for doing what you do, and I hope you do it for as long as possible!

    Abby

  12. This outfit is very lovely on you, Annie! Even lovelier is the fact that this was given to you by a loyal reader of yours. Has to be just a great feeling.

Now on to whatever brought about these poor comments you received. I follow and comment on blogs because I have my own opinion. I've learned from my days in AOL Chat Rooms and on YouTube and elsewhere that while opinions are always welcome, there is also a degree of class and honor that must be maintained when going about online. One who decides to be classless and disrespectful obviously only cares about himself/herself rather than respect the wishes and the effort one has put into any publishing of any material. I'm not sure what happened to you, but I'm sorry you had to experience this. I would never comment or follow anyone's material if I didn't believe in that person's or those peoples' content. Not sure how many loyal male readers you get, but even a guy like myself would never disrespect a woman.

If others don't respect "Really Petite" or anything of yours, screw 'em. Just keep doing what you do to please your loyal/respectful fans (like myself).

  13. i think that when people say nasty things like that, 1) they are jealous, 2) they have low self-esteem, and 3) talking sh!t about other more successful people is a way for them to feel better about themselves. how awful that you had to be on the receiving end of those nasty comments!

  14. Who in their right mind would bash you?? That's crazy to hear! You're beautiful and stylish and sweet! Way to stick up for yourself!!!

  15. Sorry to hear of all of the drama/issues that you are having. I can't believe how petty and immature some people are. They're really missing out on what matter in life.
I love your outift- that dress and scarf together are perfection!

  16. I don't know what negative comments you are referencing but your response to that here is great. Stay strong! You're beautiful and I love your blog…I'm so sorry others don't feel the same! You seem like such a sweet and wonderful person too! Stay strong and keep doing what you're doing…I totally support you! And you look fabulous in this outfit too…glad you kept the Cole Haan booties! ; )

  17. I'm also so sorry you have to deal with hateful people. I don't know what was said but your response here was great. You are beautiful inside and out…and I completely support you! I love your blog and your style…too bad other people can't deal with that. You look fabulous in this outfit and I'm so glad to see you kept the Cole Haan booties. ; ) Stay strong and keep doing what you're doing. As you can see from the other comments below, we all love you! : )

  18. power to you, annie. never let the haters take you down. they're immature and ugly-on-the-inside people letting all their insecurities pour out onto nice people. blogging is hard work and us ladies will always have your back!

  19. Sorry to hear about the drama but im glad to hear you are keeping your head up! You are a smart, beautiful and stylish women who doesnt need to put up with all the other bs!

  20. Wow, honestly, I'm a little shocked that THIS was your response to what's been going on. Have you ever thought that if such a large handful of people feel this way about your blog, that it's no coincidence? My first thought to the title of this post was, "Oh good, she will maturely address the situation and admit to herself that somewhere along the line, she went wrong." I was disappointed to see that you clearly did not introspect into what's been said. I know it's natural to get defensive, and yes, some of those comments could have been more constructive in nature rather than bashing, but maybe you should look at the hard evidence and realize there's truth in those comments.

    -A Concerned Reader

  21. Hi Annie, I lurk on your blog all the time, but thought this was a good time to tell you how much I appreciate what you do. You have a wonderful sense of style, and your blog is consistently helpful to me (as I'm about your size!). The internet really brings out the best and the worst in people, doesn't it? Fortuntately, your blog falls into the "best" category.

  22. I totally missed what was said, but it's sad that a few "bad apples" have to spoil the bunch. You are a beautiful person inside & out, and it's your inner beauty that shines thru in your pictures and in your posts. You are one of the first petite blogs that I found online, and still my favourite. You will always be a lovely, gracious woman andso hold your head up high & be proud of the special human being that you are. We, your loyal readers, appreciate you so much, and we turn our heads away from toxic people, they hold no place in our lives.

  23. Haters only make you more relevant πŸ˜‰
You are a beautiful girl and show inspiring and helpful looks. I am happy to see you not let others bring you down. You have strong online support and I enjoy your sunny and smiley posts!

  24. Wait, are those flowers I'm seeing there? You've got to be kidding me! I miss California!
You look amazing in this dress. Love the scarf as an accessory. I'm a newly turned scarf fan recently as well. πŸ™‚
You are a strong woman, and I have always admired you for that.
    Keep your posts coming…

  25. First off, I just wanted to say I'm new your blog. I've followed Jean for several months now, but honestly, didn't even like her too much. I've also never in my life felt the need to comment on a blog. I was directed to yours recently and was immediately taken aback by the similarities, from the photos, to the watermark, to the banner, to the name, to the background…not to mention the clothes themselves. Consistently coming out with the same items of clothing in the same order AFTER someone else and calling it a coincidence is just too good to be true. I'm writing this directly to you now because I know you won't approve it to be shown (which, by the way, I think is pretty cowardly) and because I just needed to get my feelings heard.

I'm sure you're a nice girl who works hard on her blog. It also honestly seems like you don't believe you copy Jean's blog. However, it's undeniably true, and all the comments you've been receiving should really just drive that point home. I'm not trying to insult you or be rude; I'm merely trying to be logical because I truly do not understand how you rationalize away the blatant copying to yourself. I do feel bad that you get a lot of haters, but at the same time, I still think I feel more for Jean. Can you imagine putting in all your time into that work and then seeing it duplicated on a more amateur scale elsewhere? I will believe that you don't copy her work when you stop posting the same things. If you truly believe that your work is original, please, just look at your blogs objectively…any intelligent person will see the truth.

  26. I'm not familiar with the negativity you wrote about and I'm glad. I can't imagine why anyone who doesn't know you would feel the need to write such mean things… under the "anonymous" veil. How do people have the time for this?! I think your amazing and appreciate all that you have done to keep us [readers] posted (via twitter and on your blog) on the latest in petite trends. I can't say I "know you" but I have gotten to know you better over the last few weeks (thanks to twitter :)… Love your blog and please continue to be YOU! xo, tasha

  27. I am a long-time lurker and I love both blogs. I don't mind the similar posts because as a fellow petite (I'm 5'0" tall, but nowhere near a 00p!) I understand that it's hard to shop anywhere other than the same 4 or 5 stores. Furthermore, didn't ALL the bloggers rush out and buy the Anthropologie Stormy Seas necklace and the YSL Arty ring? I didn't even have a blog back then, and I went out and bought them!

That said, you are free to post whatever you want on your blog! That is why we buy our domain names, so that we can post anything we want. If anyone doesn't like it, they don't have to read your blog. They can go and buy their own domain name and post whatever they want. I just wanted to say that I read your blog and I read the other one and I think that as bloggers we all draw inspiration from everything we see and that is to be expected. There are always going to be people who wander the internet just looking for ways to criticize others. I'm not going to lie, I will go ahead and delete the comments of those who aren't giving any constructive criticism and are just bashing me or others. Keep your head up, Annie!

  28. this dress looks beautiful on you and you definitely have a strong readership (as this dress is proof of all those who love you!). i'm glad you decided to keep these booties and i love the way you styled it, Annie! and i really do admire your strength and know you will get through this stronger than ever!

    cute & little

  29. *shakes head* I don't understand why someone would bash you. I don't know you on a personal level, but for sure I know that you are very sweet and genuinely nice to everyone. I love your blog..WE love your blog and yes, don't let that hater, jealous person let you down πŸ™‚ We love you. By the way, that is a really nice dress and it fits you so well.

  30. This dress looks so beautiful on you and love how you styled it with the scarf! Also glad that you found a bracelet that fits!

  31. I have been reading yours and jean's blog for a while and I have to say I love both your blogs very much but it does feel a little weird to see so many exact outfits/sandals/bags both of you have. I like it when bloggers review the same items but honestly, I really love it when you post more original outfits and ideas =)

I do not agree witht the bashing on forums about your blog though, I think you are a really nice lady and you definitely deserve more respect!

  32. It's unfortunate that there's been some drama about you/your blog. I think it's great that you choose to be a bigger person, and your self confidence shows. Nevertheless, hate hurts, and I'm sure their comments just come from a place of personal dissatisfaction. Don't take it personally and stay positive!

  33. Annie, I'm a daily reader but very infrequent commenter. I just wanted to let you know how ridiculous I think the comments on Jean's blog were. First of all, they are probably all from one ignorant, cowardly person. Second, I feel that your style is very unique from Jean's. Even when you wear the same pieces, you each make them your own. I think both your styles have changes a bit since you started blogging, but there's nothing wrong with that. Keep doing your thing and know that there are many people who really enjoy you and your blog.

  34. I'm sorry to hear about all this nasty talk. I've been reading your blog for a while now and I'm surprised anyone has anything mean to say!

I love your blog and I think you have an amazing sense of style! I'm dressed up more than I am dressed down so I find your blog especially inspiring. You come off as very classy and kind. I know it sounds cliche', but anyone writing mean comments must be jealous because you have one of the best blogs out there!

  35. Annie,

It makes me sad that people would post negative things about you and your blog.

I love, and look forward to, seeing your looks and reading your posts. I love your style and as always, you look beautiful!

You, Kelly, Jean and others have been a HUGE help to me as a petite, professional woman and I'm sure you have helped countless others with their style and the issue of being petite.

PLEASE keep doing what you do. Keep getting back up. Don't let haters discourage you. I sure would miss your blog if you stopped writing =)

    <3 – Jackie

  36. I honestly do not know what specific case(s) you are referring to but I agree 100%. It is truly unfortunate that anyone (women, men, whomever) would be so "mean" to anyone else. How hard is it to simply keep your unkind thoughts to yourself? If you ask me, it is quite cowardly to do it over the internet anyway. The commenter knows that they cann0t be confronted. I read many blogs and I see outfits that I do not like every day. I simply do not comment on that blog on that day. How hard is that?

For what it is worth, I love your blog and I love your simple & sophisticated style. Please don't misinterpret my use of the word simple as it was not meant as anything other than complimentary. After all, we dress so much alike, our tastes are so similar. You keep your chin up & know that there are many more that appreciate your work than there are that act so sadly and think such awful things.

    http://theleatherskirt.blogspot.com/

  37. You realize changing your banner is admission of guilt, right? If you weren't bothered by the opinions and criticisms of the anon comments – or didn't believe their views to be true to a certain extent – why bother changing the banner? Doesn't that completely contradict the message you're trying to convey in this post? If you're not going to be stopped/discouraged by the anon comments as you're stated why have you already let them lead you to changing your site design???

  38. That is such gorgeous dress and looks so good on you. Perfect for the fall/winter. Also love the booties!

Im sorry to hear about all the stuff that has been going on. But it is such times which help you show who your good friends are and who actually care about you! Glad you are not letting this issue bog you down . Keep up your good work and care not about what other people say. As long as your heart says you are right you have nothing to explain or justify yourself!

  39. Hey Annie, where did you get the bracelet from? I know you were on the look out for one that fit you. Gorgeous pictures πŸ™‚ Everyone is unique in their own way, so just be your gorgeous self and you will continue to have followers and support πŸ™‚

  40. Hi, I've been following your blog for a while and also have been disheartened and saddened by the recent turn of events. Women can be incredibly hateful and tear other women down for something so trivial and stupid. I am sorry you got caught in the line of fire this time. I love your blog and want to thank you for putting yourself out there and also I love it when I can see repeat outfits on you as well as other petite bloggers. Isn't that the spirit of blogging fashion- to show others good deals and finds, so we can all share? I do think women should share and be positive and refrain from all this needless negativity. Really, people, there are enough bad things in the world to focus on. Leave really petite alone!

  41. Omg Annie! What a horrible thing to have going on, I had no idea! You definitely have my support, you've been nothing but kind and supportive to me and my blog and I want you to know that "You've got a friend" πŸ˜‰ Lol

On to happy things to talk about….Love that dress on you and how fabulous is that new skirt from H&M?!! Love it! (You know my obsession with skirt length….do you mind to post the measurements from waist to hem?) Blogging is a lot of work, so don't be discouraged right now, I can't tell you how much I enjoy your posts!!

  42. Awe thank you so much Callandra! You are such a sweetie πŸ™‚

The waist measures 11.5" flat across and the hem is 16.5". Hope this helps! You would look amazing in this skirt! It's adorable!

  43. Sorry for the delay R.L. This dress was from the regular BR store back in 2007/2008 according to the lovely reader that gave it to me. It's made out of a blend of rayon, nylon and spandex πŸ™‚

  44. Miss Annie,

I'm glad you won't let anyone take you down. I can't even imagine what kind of negative comments could be said based on a fashion blog, but people do find ways… It is very sad! Just remember how far you've gotten with this blog… over 1,000 members or more reading your blog daily! You're getting sponsorships from clothing compaines! You have a HUGE amount of supportive readers (and some who send you stuff!). One or two negative nancy's out there don't mean anything at all compared to what you have. Keep your head up because it'll pay off in the end. πŸ™‚ Haters won't go anywhere with their life! You have an amazing blog!

Anyway, I love that dress and I wish it was still available!! It fits perfectly… I hope I can find something very similar!
    Much love,
    Megan

    http://www.longliveclassy.com

  45. You kept the Talias! They're the best, aren't they? And that woolen skirt is amazing — I bought it about two weeks ago, and have worn it 5 times or so already. It fits SO perfectly!

  46. Thanks Vicky. Yes we still have flowers…but it's getting down to 48 degrees now…but I can't really complain..hehehe

You have been a great friend and supporter and I hope you know how much I adore ya!

  47. Hi Amy,

Well I can't even begin to tell you how much your comment meant to me. And the fact that you took the time to leave a comment when I needed it the most. I truly appreciate everything you said and you have NO idea how much it means to me. Thank you so so so so much for reading and supporting me and most of all STICKING up for me. Gosh I wish I could give you a great big hug!!! : )

  48. Awe Jackie! Gosh you have been just so fantastic to me I think since the very beginning! You are amazing and thank you for being so kind to me!

  49. Hi Elaine! Sorry for the delay! The bracelet is super duper old from Kohl's! I got it dirt cheap for like a couple of bucks..LOL It fits really nicely and has that vintage-y vibe:)

  50. OMG wow…..I love your entire comment but my fave part is:
"Isn't that the spirit of blogging fashion- to show others good deals and finds, so we can all share? I do think women should share and be positive and refrain from all this needless negativity."
Amen to that! I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am that you left this comment! I so appreciate you more than you know! Thank you so so so much!

  51. Yup! I kept them! They are super cute! I like how snug then are everywhere…LOL And yay – you go the skirt too? I can't wait to wear it!!! What color top did you pair it with?

  52. I think one of the best things about this skirt is how many colors you can pair it with! I wore it with a neutral tan one day, teal another, and also navy and grey…it really goes with SO many things.

  53. Lovely Annie,
realize that the judgment of others has nothing to do with you
and everything to do with the person who is judging.

  54. Lovely Annie,
realize that the judgment of others has nothing to do with you
and everything to do with the person who is judging.

  55. I've never posted before, but I ADORE your blog. As a new-to-the-workforce college grad, I use your blog for inspiration and advice for petite and fashionable work clothing. Just wanted to send you some love to counteract the negativity.

  56. Hi busglow,

Awe……thank you for sending me some love when I need it the most:-) I know you said you never commented before and it means a lot that you took the time to send me this comment!! Great big hugs:-) thanks for all your kind words too- keeps me going!!!

  57. I felt terribly bad for you after I read the negative comments on the other referred to blog, it struck me as inane and childish to level accusations of copying on items coming from H and M, a brand itself that copies other designer brands, much like Forever 21 and Ann Taylor. For people who wish to be 100% original, you can't dress in clothing available to most of American women, nevermind many in the Western world. In any case, you had to learn first-hand what probably many celebrities and other people who "put themselves out there" as you wrote already know–that people can be nasty, judgmental, and presume that they know you when in fact they are just making assumptions based on their own prejudices (one of the comments described you as "lonely"–I mean, how they heck would they KNOW? From judging your boots?). In any case, put it behind you and continue to do what you do. I suspect many of the commenters were very young. You certainly seem like a lovely women with a lot to offer us petites.

  58. Thank you so much Meshuganeh. All the things you mentioned are so SPOT ON – I wish I could shout it from the rooftops. Thank you so much for all your kind words and especially your support. Not sure what lonely comment you were referring to because I refuse to go back and read what else people wrote- I don't want to waste my time. And if they only knew that I tweeted and mentioned on FB about those boots well before it was posted by anyone. I really appreciate you taking the time to write to me- means a LOT : )

  59. hi,

I lurk mostly on both yours and extrapetite's blogs and I think I remember one such incident happening(not sure if something happened more recently). At the time, I was shocked that the person even bought it up. What's the point? All the petites share their ideas and finds and have multiple wears of same piece of clothing. That's why I'm sad that you feel as if you need to prove that you're different when you already are! =) I mean, I come to both blogs for a reason even if you guys are wearing the same stuff; even if you both are petites, doesn't mean that it looks or dresses the same! Anyway I'm sorry the person in the comments on the other blog hurt you, but based on this post and other supportive comments I hope you know that your hard work isn't unnoticed!

  60. Hi Wensi,

Thank you so much for leaving your comment. I really really appreciate you taking the time. It really means a lot to me. I agree with EVERYTHING you said and I am grateful for your support. *tears* *hugs* Thank you thank you! Made my day! : )

  61. I started out reading both blogs but I will admit that I did become a bit put off when I kept seeing the same EXACT outfits. There's a difference in reviewing the same item but when it looks like it's being specifically copied and not the writer's own personal style… it gets tiring. Your style has changed a bit from when you first started blogging. I do like it much better when your outfits reflect your own personal style. I hope you do not take this the wrong way. I prefer bloggers who have their own unique sense of style and it reflects them as a individual. When people start dressing exactly alike, it can be a turn off. This is my honest opinion. I wish you both well in your endeavors but please keep it as your own. πŸ™‚

  62. Your blog has led me to realize I need to shop in the petites section, I'm tired of being unable to find pants that don't trail past my ankles πŸ™‚

  63. Love how you have the scarf tied. Can you explain how you did it? What size scarf is needed? Thanks!
    Clara

  64. Hi Claroo! Yes of course! I just took the long scarf, threw it over my shoulders and tied the two ends into a knot. Then made a 2nd loop and put it over my head so it ends up to have 2 loops and looks like an infinity scarf….hope that makes sense! πŸ™‚

  65. We are a gaggle of volunteers and starting a brand new
scheme in our community. Your website provided us with
valuable info to work on. You have performed a formidable task
and our entire group shall be grateful to you.

  66. I think what you said was very reasonable. However, consider this, suppose you
composed a catchier title? I mean, I don’t wish to tell you how to run your blog, but suppose you added something to possibly get people’s attention? I mean Dear Readers…
    | Stylish Petite is kinda boring. You ought to peek at
Yahoo’s home page and note how they create article titles to get people to click.
You might add a related video or a pic or two to get people interested about everything’ve written. Just my opinion, it might bring
    your posts a little livelier.

  67. Hi there, just became alert to your blog through Google, and
found that it is truly informative. I’m going to watch out for brussels.
I’ll be grateful if you continue this in future. Numerous people
will be benefited from your writing. Cheers!
