My mother-in-law recently made this amazing chunky mustard cowl neck scarf for me and I couldn’t be more thrilled. There’s nothing like having something made for you that is one of a kind and from someone that you love. The color is so pretty and I love the chunkiness of the yarn.
There are just some items that I just can’t help but wear over and over. This Forever 21 tunic is probably a bit too thin and short to wear in colder states (even with boots) but that’s the beauty of living in SoCal!
I had to figure out a way to winterize this dress and was elated when I put together this outfit. See how I wore it earlier this Summer here. By adding a blazer, chunky scarf and tall boots, I turned a simple Summer dress into a Fall/Winter ready outfit.
This is the perfect weekend outfit for me. It’s casual but still dressy enough to go out to dinner. If I get too hot (which I tend to break a sweat when shopping), I can take off the blazer and just wear the dress and scarf alone.
My newest love is this vintage Coach cognac leather cross body. It was gifted to me from my MIL. She’s had it forever and it’s in great condition. I feel so lucky to have it! It is so similar to the H&M cross body that I have grown to love, especially being able to shop hands free. The quality is impeccable and the rich cognac color is gorgeous. I am not a huge Coach fan but their leather is really high quality. It’s the perfect size (slightly larger than H&M) and the length of the strap (not adjustable) is a great length for me. I’ve seen some similar ones on Ebay but just make sure you check the condition/authenticity of the purse and seller before buying.
How do you winterize your favorite Summer items?
I love this! Totally pinning so I can be inspired for future outfits. I WANT that scarf. It looks soooo cute and cozy.
Flawless. Always so chic. LOVE those boots!

Annie, you are crazy beautiful with this outfit. The boots are lovely, and I also like the blazer to go along with it. Great outfit. Of course, your hair, face, and smile all remain as sweet as ever.

i LOVE your chunky mustard scarf! lucky it's handmade too
Gorge scarf!! And the best thing about it is that it's one of a kind! I'm so jealous that you can wear such a summery dress this late in the year…even though the weather is still VERY warm in NY (almost 70 degrees today!) I still don't think I could wear something so light and not be cold. But maybe if I had an equally cozy scarf…
The scarf definitely adds warmth because I was breaking a sweat while taking photos! lol
Thanks Angie! I love it too! Way to go MIL! 🙂
Thank you for your kind words 🙂
Thanks Jordan 🙂
Awe thanks Jessy! The scarf is super soft and cozy 🙂 If I knew how to make one, I'd crochet you one in a heart beat!
Love the scarf.. warm and cozy and glamorous too!
This is adorable….I love the scarf…I wish I knew someone that could make something like this lol
Well done, Annie!
I love love love those nautical stripes! I can't get enough of them myself. I'm still looking for the perfect striped dress, but I don't think I'll find any during the winter season! Haha… The way you put it together is sooo perfect and cute! Especially with the yellow scarf. I would've never thought to add yellow to navy stripes. 🙂
I am all about using summer outfit during winter, there is no reason to pack them away at all. With creativity and the art of layering, you can create so many outfits. I really love what you do here with this outfit, it turned out super super cute with different textures and colors. Four thumbs up for you Annie.
oops that was me, Nelah. Can't get my GFC username to show when I logged in using your Disqus to comment
Nothing beats stripes 🙂 I love your winterized look!
And oh my goodness, I finished knitting a mustard cowl scarf too and posted it. I love your MIL's version – definitely looks chunkier than mine 🙂
Love, love, love that scarf!!!
Really cute outfit – that first photo looks amazing!
I've always loved this dress on you. This is hands down my favorite outfit. It was so sweet of your MIL to make you that scarf. It looks so cozy and I know how much you love mustard color…lol =)
That's an adorable outfit! I love that scarf, and especially that it's handmade. Living in Philadelphia I can't winterize too many of my summer outfits, but we are experiencing unusually warm weather here so today I am winterizing a tank dress with a blazer, black tights and booties today. And thanks to this post, I will now add a scarf!
Gah! You're so lucky to be able to do without tights in the CA winter. Adorable outfit, Annie!
I really like this outfit! and love your scarf! I have been looking for one like this for ages 🙂 Still on the hunt 🙂

Yeeeee! One of my favorite outfit of yours, Annie! I love how you pair the navy blue with golden yellow and cognac. Fantastic pairing. Yes, this would be too cold for colder states, but given how warm we've been having lately this outfit is not out of reach. I love the vintage Coach crossbody you have here. It's timeless. Coach makes some classic looking bags too, but you have to look hard enough. lol on the yellow car matching your scarf. 🙂
Loving the Coach cross-body bag! Practical and beautiful. 🙂 This is a very fun spin on stripes — I love stripes, so I'm always looking for styling ideas. 🙂
Thanks Carrie! The Coach cross-body is amazing! It's all leather which I love! Been using it like crazy:)
Lol! Oh Vicky…you crack me up! Finally someone noticed the yellow car…I stood there on purpose and was giggling to myself 😀
Thanks Katherine! I hope you find your scarf…if you know how to crochet or knit- you should make your own 🙂
I am pretty lucky…altho it gets confusing sometimes. One day it's scorching hot and then the next day, I am shivering to death…lol
Thanks Lily! Your outfit sounds lovely:) Adding a scarf is such a great way to warm up/winterize your outfit!
Thanks Sydney! I love this dress too! Def got my $9.50 worth out of it. It's already starting to pill:( I have a great MIL…so glad she knows how to crochet/knit! 🙂
Thanks so much! I'm shocked the 1st photo turned out because of the gleaming sun:)
Awe thank you!
Thanks SPG! I love me some stripes too!
I love your mustard cowl scarf! What can't you do? 🙂
Hi Nelah! YAY…are you able to comment now? I was all excited when I saw it was you:) Have you tried editing your profile on Disqus?
Thanks Megan! I'm sure you will find a striped dress come Spring/Summer of 2012. I can't see this trend going out anytime soon:)
Thanks so much:D
LOL Hopefully SPG will hold a giveaway for her mustard cowl scarf! 🙂
Thanks so much! 😀
You look sooo beautiful! Just started reusing my classic janice coach bag myself! Love yours!! Looks amazing with your outfit and love your scarf. I love knitted items that are or look handmade!
you look gorgeous in this blue beautiful outfit!!
this is absolutely gorgeous! I love this.
Oh Megan…you are just awesome. Thank you 😀
Just wanted to let you know that I was trying to pin one of your pictures on Pinterest and Flickr is denying access to do this. (I'm assuming you don't mind being pinned since you have a PinIt button on display above your post.) Apparently this is something Flickr has decided to do on it's own so I checked and the same thing was happening on my own blog. I had to go to my Flickr account and enable sharing so that my pictures were pinnable again. Just FYI.
Thanks so much Renee! I have fixed the problem:)
I am not sure where you’re getting your information, but good topic.
I needs to spend some time learning much more or understanding more.
Thanks for wonderful info I was looking for this info for my mission.
Saved as a favorite, I really like your blog!
Heya this is kind of of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors
or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding know-how
so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Howdy, i read your blog occasionally and i
own a similar one and i was just curious if you get a lot of
spam remarks? If so how do you prevent it, any plugin or anything you can recommend?
I get so much lately it’s driving me insane so any help is
very much appreciated.
Hey there just wanted to give you a quick heads up.
The words in your content seem to be running off the screen in Opera.
I’m not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I thought
I’d post to let you know. The style and design look great though!
Hope you get the problem fixed soon. Kudos
Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you relied
on the video to make your point. You obviously know what youre talking about,
why throw away your intelligence on just posting videos to your blog when you could be giving us something enlightening to
read?
Hello There. I found your blog the use of msn. That is a really
well written article. I’ll be sure to bookmark it and return to learn more of your useful information. Thanks for the post.
I’ll certainly return.
Good post however , I was wanting to know if you could write a litte more on this topic?
I’d be very grateful if you could elaborate a little bit more.

Hi, I do think this is a great website. I stumbledupon it 😉 I will return once again since I book-marked
it. Money and freedom is the best way to change, may you be rich and
continue to guide others.
I’m not sure why but this site is loading extremely slow
for me. Is anyone else having this issue or is it a issue on my end?
I’ll check back later on and see if the problem still exists.
Hi there! This post could not be written any better! Reading through this post
reminds me of my good old room mate! He always
kept talking about this. I will forward this article to him.
Pretty sure he will have a good read. Thanks for sharing!
