I recently got this blouse back from the tailors and I love it! I got it awhile back during one of the Ann Taylor’s flash sales but they were out of XXSP so I settled with XSP.
I got it cheap enough to justify paying for alterations. I would have tried to alter it myself but the sleeves had to be taken up and slimmed and I’m not skilled to do that yet. The blouse was very wide so I had both the sides taken in but wanted to keep the blouse-y look and feel. I love the color and the style so much. I’m very happy with how the final outcome. I regret not taking a before and after pic to show you the difference.
Speaking of flash sales, Ann Taylor is having another one that ends tonight (no code needed). Sizes are going fast so be sure to check it out (online only). I picked up the following:
– ruched wrap top in rich red ($12)
– colorblock ruched wrap top in desert sky (navy) ($14)
– seamed ponte dress ($36)
– crepe colorblocked dress ($30)
– floral cotton modal scoop neck tee ($8)

I recently scored this navy and white tweed pencil skirt for $24 – super excited about this one. I also ordered this lane striped shirt and pintucked ankle pants in navy to try out. Will keep you posted on the fit.
I’ve been procrastinating going to the tailors (over a year now) but decided my pile was getting way to big. I finally decided it was time and dragged my lazy butt there. After waiting almost a month for the alterations to be done and getting the bill, I realized why I waited so long…it’s so expensive!
I’ve learned a few basic sewing skills over the past year and know that alterations are extremely time consuming. I guess I’m trading my time for money. In the end, it’s worth it for perfect fitting clothes. I admire those that sew on a regular basis.
These Banana Republic Hampton dot cropped pants fit really well on me. There’s a small waist gap in the back but nothing a belt won’t fix. The pants are fitted through the thighs/legs and the length fits me nicely. I like them much better than my Ann Taylor factory dot pants from earlier this year.
The blouse and cropped pants are both charming. I also like the necklace. While I do love the pumps, there are very few cap-toe shoes I am fond of. I don’t really like the silvery cap toes to these navy blue pumps. This is still a lovely outfit.

this outfit is amazing! I love that green color, it’s perfect π I have a handbag lingering around that has had a broken zipper for over a year now. I need to take it to a tailor to get fixed, but am procrastinating it too because I know it won’t be cheap… xo
Thanks Nikki! I figured I’m going to have to pay for alterations whether it’s now or later. Lol

I absolutely love your blog, your style is fantastic! Have been following you for quite a while, but I was wondering where you live? Being from Ireland, it’s quite cold a lot of the time so most days involve wearing trousers or tights! Also you most have a really successful job, I can only dream of buying clothes that price π xx
Thanks Stephanie! I’m in California π

I really like the color of the blouse! Do you have any recommendations for how to find a good tailor, and average price points for different types of alterations you’ve had done?
Thanks Lily! What state do you live in? I think the best way to find a good tailor is from recommendations. Or maybe try Yelp? I found mine through there and it’s proven to be pretty good. I do a lot of slimming of skirts/taking up hem and that runs about $20-25 depending on if it’s lined or not. Slimming blouses on the sides like the one I am wearing is roughly around $15 but I had to pay extra for taking up the sleeves and taking in the sleeves. To take up the original hem on jeans is about $25 or $10 if you don’t care about the original hem. Taking in the waist of pants runs me around $25-30. Hope this helps! π

Yes, this is helpful, thanks! I live in NJ and have only gone to a tailor here a handful of times based on Yelp reviews. Still haven’t had much success finding one that does a good job at a reasonable price. I’ve resorted to getting all my tailoring done when I visit my family in SoCal (the person I go to there is great and super cheap), but it’s not so fun waiting months and months just to get things hemmed and taken in to fit right! Gah! I shall keep searching π
Which tailor do you like in SoCal? π

The tailor I go to is in SD. Her name is Lisa and her shop doesn’t have a name (the building front literally just says “Alterations”, haha). But my family has been going to her for years. Let me know if you’d like me to send you more info π
Aww shucks – that’s too far from me π Thanks anyway Lily! <3

You look so business chic here Annie! I love this blouse on you and I’m so glad that you made the plunge and visited your tailor. It was definitely worth the wait and I can’t wait to see you wearing them out! A great tailor is priceless especially if our moms are not around to lend a hand. I’m picking up a few pieces at my tailor tomorrow too. π
Thanks Jess! He did a great job even though it took weeks to get. I’m happy to get my other items back. I can finally wear some of my clothes that have been sitting there collecting dust. Lol
