Many say that when you’re petite, you cannot pull off a midi skirt. I completely disagree! Midi lengths (when done right) can be flattering on many shapes and sizes. I used to love shorter hemlines and always thought that because I’m petite, I had to wear shorter lengths. This isn’t always the case. Longer hemlines can elongate your legs and even make you appear taller. For the past several years, I’ve been loving midi lengths. Yes this type of skirt can look frumpy however if you style it properly, it can look very classy and ladylike.
The most important thing to keep in mind when trying to pull off a midi skirt are proportions. The wrong proportions can lead to a not so flattering look. I’m just under 5′ tall and my ideal midi length is right past my knees and slightly above the middle of my calves. Any longer and it just looks wrong on me. This navy pleated midi skirt is just the right length and would probably look even better on someone taller. Sizing runs true to size and I’m wearing size XS. The waist is loose on me however the belt holds it up just fine. I love it so much I have it in mustard too! See HERE and HERE.
I like wearing midi skirts high on my waist and tucking in my top or blouse. A belt is essential to defining your waist and helps pull everything together. If you have a solid color skirt, pair it with a printed top and bold cardigan for a pop of color. For printed midi skirts, wear neutral shoes in the same color family and keep the accessories to a minimum.
Side note – this skirt comes with the braided belt and has pockets. Woo hoo!
A midi skirt can be fitted or flared – find out which silhouette you prefer best. I actually like both fitted and flare styles on petite gals. It really is all about preference and what you feel most comfortable in. I say if it makes you happy or feel good, wear it.
This type of skirt is feminine so let yourself be girly! Add cute accessories and just own it. Looking classy makes you feel classy.
One of the reasons why I love ModCloth is not only do they offer unique and vintage-y items that you can’t find anywhere else but also because their clothes are modest. They have a range of sizes for all body types. Sizes start at XXS and go up to 4X. How great is that? Here are some of my favorite fall pieces:
One of my favorite color combos to wear for fall is navy, white and mustard. The colors compliment each other so well. I love how affordable this office appropriate outfit is. It goes to show you can look modest but not frumpy. 🙂
