During the last J.Crew sale, I couldn’t help but get this adorable striped skirt.  After a failed attempt at the striped Banana Republic skirt from a few months ago, I’ve wanted a navy striped skirt to add to my wardrobe. I have the linen city mini in navy from last year (see here and here) and love it to pieces. I was hoping that this would fit the same because I remember a few years ago, the wool city mini’s ran really big.
Measurements: Waist laying flat (un-stretched) 11.5″, Hips are 18″ and total length is 17.5″.  The ripstop cotton is a bit more flared and is 1″ longer in length and 1/2″ smaller in the hips compared to the linen city mini. Even though this is called a mini, it’s not mini on petites.  I think it’s a great casual skirt length.  If your work isn’t too conservative, you could get away with wearing this to work (add tights in the winter) with a cute blazer or button-up blouse.

Fit: The elastic/accordion pleats waistband is great for someone with a small waist (no alterations) and can stretch out for a good meal.  The paper-bag waist style isn’t for everyone but I love it. It’s super comfortable and easy to wear.  I would add a cute belt to complete the outfit but was in a rush ๐Ÿ™‚

Quality: It’s typical J.Crew quality – well made. I can’t complain but then again I may be biased since I love almost everything J.Crew. I was so happy to see that it has pockets! The linen city mini’s do not come with pockets (at least mine from last year doesn’t have them).  The only complaint I have for this skirt is that it’s unlined.

Material/Care: This is made out of 100% cotton (unlined). It’s a thicker, crispier cotton material.  Machine wash cold and warm iron if needed (I prefer steaming over ironing).  It doesn’t seem to be wrinkle prone but will update once I officially wear it for an entire day.  Thank goodness the material is thick enough and is not see through. I would still suggest wearing nude panties to be safe.

Color: The color is navy and white stripes. It may look black on the computer screen but it’s true navy in real life.

Verdict: Keeping! I can see this being a Spring/Summer favorite.  I will definitely be bringing this on my next vacation too ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I love this skirt Annie. I love how it has pockets and really isn’t too short for a mini. It actually looks more spring appropriate as compared to the BR striped skirt. The fit for this one is way better since it actually flatters your petite body rather than having it look frumpy like the BR one.

  2. I love the length of that skirt. I also appreciate elastic waists as well… so that way I won’t have to worry about popping any buttons after a large buffet ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. The city minis are so cute on you! The striped version is my favorite and if they come out with a polka dot version then I think you might just fall out of your chair. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I also love the minty color you chose for your latest shellac mani.

  4. It is so cute! It looks easy enough for a DIY, especially with elasticized waistbands!

    • Yeah mine wrinkles easily too – that’s one bad thing about linen! You should def pick up this cotton one:)
